Need a new bow string. Got the advice I needed on length, so now I just need ot figure out what I want it made out of.

Bow has bomb-proof tips, so I figure I can go a number of ways with it.

My primary reason for shooting is that I love to hunt when I can, so of course, I'm looking for something that'll be quiet on a recurve, but I wouldn't want to make any undue sacrifices in speed or shootability just to achieve a level of quiet which I could reach with a couple of yarn puffs or beaver balls...

Specific recommendations are welcome. But if anyone has time or interest in detailing the pros and cons of the various materials, I'll compile the info and try to post it as a data table so that it'll become a useful selection guide...

THX!

Ask Chad or Rick. You might as well get your advise from the pro's. I use bcyx and would like to try fury. Cameron

14 strands of ultra cam are good as well as 12-14 strands of 8125 or d97. Any string material has pros and cons. A few test strings will reveal what is best. I'm privy to the ultra cam because it stays put.

Having read a lot of reports and opinions, I am under the impression that it doesn't make much difference which modern material you choose- that they are all good. Does anybody have any solid information to the contrary?

Me, I still have a small supply of original Fast Flight. When it runs out I expect I will just go with whatever current material is cheapest, maybe D97, unless someone can come up some good factual information. Unsupported assertions carry no weight with me. - lbg

I agree with Longbowguy I've used BCY for 12 years, D97, 8125 and 8190 they're all good materials and perform equally well, I think correct string length and nock fit is far more important than brand. I make all my own strings and prefer 8125 and 8190 just because it's easier to get the desired nock fit on my string.
