I have lost track, I know it's over 50, maybe I should get rid of a few. I thought my sons would want some and they do but I have so many and one son is a lefty and I made him a couple already.

From: strshotx
Date: 23-Oct-14

It doesn't matter as long as you enjoy them! I don't have as many as you but I know it is around 25+.I have a wide variety from BBO,Hill, longows,ILF and some nice recurves. And a ton of arrows wood, aluminum and carbon.

From: lefty4

I don't know yet. LOL

From: Smithhammer

Over 50? I feel much better now. I've set a personal limit of 6. Or maybe it was 7....

From: PaPa Doc
Date: 23-Oct-14

close to sixty, and I make some too.

From: JusPassin Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Is there a limit?

From: Dan In MI

I dunno, at about 20 I purge so I can binge again....

My motto is "If some is good and more is better, too many is just about enough".

From: Ghostinthemachine
Date: 23-Oct-14

I had about 50 a few years ago, but I've purged the collection down to about a dozen.

Buy high, sell low. That's my motto. lol

From: gobbler

heck I only have 5. Guess i'd better keep buying

From: redheadlvr

Bows like guitars are something you can't have enough of.

From: arrowchucker
Date: 23-Oct-14

That's easy. X+1=Y Y = numnber of bows you should have X= number of bows you have. Simple math.

From: Big Dog
Date: 23-Oct-14

I know it's heresy......but I have never been able to make myself own more than 1 bow at a time. It's a personality flaw that I am afflicted with. :-( Don't know where I got it either but can't seem to get rid of it goin' on close to 35 years a shooting. Regards

From: Dan W
Date: 23-Oct-14

I don't understand the question.

I did once work in a guitar repair shop with the late Blues guitarist Johnny Nitro. He had an idea for a new bumper sticker:

"If I bring home one more guitar, my wife is gonna leave me. Gosh, I'll miss her!"

(Tip: lots easier to stash more bows in a pile than guitars. I got both problems- and still married!)

From: BOHO

10 is plenty !!!! unless your rich, then it doesnt matter. lol

I am leaving Sunday for a bow hunt in western Kentucky at my sister-in-laws farm. I was shooting this evening and at full draw one of my Black Widows,my beloved SA III had the bottom limb laminations separate with a loud crack. I am certainly glad I have others to rely on. One is definitely not enough!!!

From: camodave

22 is just the right number until I sell or buy the next one...so many bows and so little time...I sold one and got 4 more this month...lots of good deals out there right now

I'm always looking for a new one myself. There will never be too many for me. I guess it's my quest to find the perfect bow.

From: Selden Slider
Date: 23-Oct-14

I have only 5 and I think that's too much. I do get to shoot them all but one more than others. I'm currently looking for another but I'll have to thin the herd first. Frank

From: Tim Cousineau

I always figured bows and arrows were like guns and ammo, you cant have to much of either.

From: RymanCat

99 AINT ENOUGH.LOL

From: MStyles
Date: 24-Oct-14

For me it's 10. However, I may sell one and replace it. So it's a work in progress. But to just buy them, hang them on a rack, and not shoot them is just tying up money.

Shot a new/old Howatt Hunter tonight at the indoor.

Fast old bow, may look at getting another ; )

That would be my 28th.

From: Pdiddly

Between 40 and 50...no new, all used...mostly 60's and 70's...enjoy trying them all and noting the differences in design and performance...recently picked up my first 50's era bows...a Root Gamemaster and two Howatt's...a Ne Plus Ultra Hunter and an Eldorado Diablo.

My reason for collecting is they don't make them any more so there are less of them around every day, the prices have always and will continue to rise so they're not a bad investment in these days of 2% interest rates, they're beautiful to look at and relaxing and rewarding to shoot.

I also like to give new shooters or wheel bow shooters the chance to try traditional so have a couple of lower cost bows like a Shakespeare Sierra or Ben Pearson Hawk on hand for someone to try out. The younger shooters at my club using compounds often comment on "beautiful" my recurves look as they have never actually seen one so next step is to invite them to shoot one.

I'll flip a few in the next couple of months and then maybe get some more.

I have a little over 100 counting the good the bad and the ugly. I enjoy them all. My thoughts are there are 365 days in a year so maybe a bow for every day. Bob

From: GF
Date: 24-Oct-14

I only need one.

Just haven't found it yet!

Actually, I'm in a fix. I've got two that I like and shoot well, and no funds available whatsoever for any further experimentation. Not going to trade either one unless I'm convinced that I'll end up with something I like even better...

I guess in a perfect world, I'd find the Perfect Bow and have a matched set in #45 and #65... with a #55 as a back-up.

From: dire wolf
Date: 24-Oct-14

I have about 8 that are just for myself...Longbows and recurves, statics.. Plus another 10 or so in lesser draw weights for guests when they come by to shoot..

I like the older classic bows..and now and then I make a self bow of yew or osage also..Jim

after more than 50 years of buiding and designing bows, i have a total of 6, and two of them are not howatts. one hwarang and one meigs. figure i have 4 more than i need.

From: bowjack

Over 200. Bought and sold a couple hundred others in the last five years. I could get by with only three or four and one day in the not too distant future I will.

From: Jeff Durnell Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

I have several dozen, all bows I made, the majority of which are all-wooden, but regularly shoot just a couple of them because we've connected better than I have with the others.

Dan W, I am still married after the wife sees yet another guitar in my collection (which is at 12 right now). Yes bows are easier to hide but equally difficult to sneak in the house.

One, for me. As long as I really like it. Also because I can't afford any more!

From: BabblingBob Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I agree with firekeeper. One really good shooter, but I have a few more. Still go back to my first bow I bought coming back to traditional archery. Has sentimental value and it could be "the bow" 'cause it took a while to be able to afford it.

From: nomo

I've got 8. It's probably enough, but we'll see.

From: Jeff Durnell Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

Ahhhh, guitars. I have a dozen or so... electrics, acoustics, and a tricone resonator. My wife is super cool about my music stuff... she has encouraged me to buy guitars on more than one occasion.

I recently moved and my music room and archery room will be combined at this house... I still havent set it up because I'm not sure how to go about it yet. When I figure it out, and get it done, it'll be cool, it'll reveal me... and I'll post a few pics.

Two wall hangers and one TradTech Titan riser with three sets of limbs.

If the TT is considered three bows then I own five but only shoot three.

If it's one bow with three sets of limbs, then I own three bows but only shoot one.

I want another TT ILF riser soon and when I get it I'll then have eight bows ,or only four depending on how you look at it.

Then if I buy more limbs which could happen, I'll have even more bows but really only four still,,,,depending on how you look at it.

Jack.

As I keep returning to this thread, I had to chuckle to myself. In 1998 when I moved from firearms (all the time) to full time traditional archery, my first thought was that I would not collect bows the way I did weapons. Yeah, right!

From: Hoyt
Date: 25-Oct-14

I'm holding at 3 right now. One for early season that's a little harder to draw but I like the grip. One for late season that's easier to draw and I shoot best but grip is kinda slippery..so gloves work better with it. One for healing..lightest draw.

I have nine at the moment. Well it will be a long moment. lol

There are about a half a dozen more I would like to get but it will be a while. Trying to save up but everything else gets in the way.

Well, let's see. I was out with guests while ago and I shot three different bows.....just playing. The guests shot two others. My wife has one. I have six or seven that I've made......and three that were gifts. Oh, twenty-four or so should do it.

From: greyghost
Date: 25-Oct-14

I don't feel guilty now I'm down to 17

From: Harleywriter
Date: 25-Oct-14

I have about two dozen and all but one or two are shooters. Of those, there are six or seven that I would keep if I began selling them off.

I probably will begin doing that -- selling them off -- here in a year or two.

I wont be around forever and while the son would like two or three of them, he is not into collecting them.

Got way too many arrow shafts, too.

You know the drill...

But I don't think a guy can have too many if he enjoys collecting them.

I stopped at 145... Then gave away 20, sold about 25 more. But then... got bitten by the bug again and I'm back up 112. (Hoping one day to have the courage to whittle it down to 30 bows) Addiction is both a sad and beautiful thing.... Shoot Straight, rare breed

I'm a high school wood shop teacher and I teach kids how to make bows, os of course I have to make a demonstration model for myself, then one for the UBP Banquet auction and then usually one for a friend or one of my sons so I end up making two or thee a year, I've been teaching for 36 years, you do the math. That doesn't count the bows I bought over the years os I lost count, oh yea there's a bunch of self bows too.
