I AM SHOOTING GOLD TIPS WITH MY LONGBOWS AND FIND THE NOCKS VERY TIGHT. IS THERE A WAY TO ADJUST NOCK TENSION?

1. Get a thinner bow string. 2. Re-serve your string with thinner serving thread. (4 lb. fishing line?) 3. sand the inside of the nock with a fingernail board. 4. dip the nock in hot water and gently spread the nock apart a little and let cool. 5.Find larger nocks.

A couple ways I've done; sand the inside nock with emery board and the other is heat nock in very hot water and put on serving and let cool.

Reserve or skinny string. It's hard ro be consistent when changing nock tension with heat or sanding. find larger nocks or skinny string.

Buy a SBD bow string. Tell them what arrows you shoot. You will not look back.

I sand the inside of the knocks. TAKE YOUR TIME AND KEEP TEST FITTING AS YOU GO. :)

What kind of rope, ummm string, do you have now? If it's way too tight on a GT nock you can certainly reduce diameter of string/serving which is preferable to adjusting nock throat.

Like said above, get your string to fit your nocks. I shoot GoldTips. 12 strands of D97 and .026 center serving, fits with a light click every time. Jeff F

A bit of sandpaper wrapped around the proper size nail.

It is not hard to be consistent when enlarging a nock throat. Dip in boiling water for 20 seconds and place nock onto the serving. The throat will spread evenly every time and provide the perfect fit. Frank

One more reason to learn string making.

I make 12 strand 3 bundle B50 strings served with Brownell .021" and my GT nocks have perfect fit.

Yeah there is. Richard Head long bows of the UK has a youtube video showing the way to adjust knock fit.The knock should be a snug but not tight. With the bow in a padded vice placed string up ,clip the knock on the string. With the arrow in place tap the string with your finger and the arrow should fall free.If the arrow is too tight then dip the ( plastic) knock in hot water to soften it.when it is soft place somthing flat into the knock slot and pry it apart a little. This is how Richard Head tunes knocks.I have never done this myself but it looks like a good idea Hope it helps. My serving always compresses under the knock, so I guess it is self-adjusting

Thanks guys. I have recently picked up 2 black widow long bows and was shooting the gold tips using the BW strings provided. I'll try reserving first then the hot water treatment.

Been using the file on a Leatherman tool for years. Just count how many passes you take.

6" broadhead file press the nock on up near the handle like you where putting it on a bow string, hold arrow still and pull the file through which will be reverse against the teeth but about 3 passes like this and they will be fine.

I 2nd the SBD string though.

Spin a #32 drill in a drill press or milling machine about 600rpm. Feed the open end of the nock up to the throat about 10 times.
