Just had an awesome meeting with my BSA troop thanks to Justin Steinmetz and G.I.Bow. Justin made unfinished hickory self bows for the scouts and came to our meeting to show the boys how to string the bow, proper care for the bow, setting brace height, basic form, and how to finish it. He spent an hour and a half with the troop talking traditional bows and shooting.

Thanks to Justin my troop is on a traditional quest...gonna finish the bows, make some arrows, make a spare string and arm guard. We'll be getting some fine youngsters into the world of traditional archery.

Gents, I just had to share. I could not be more pleased. Even my son, who shot longbow for years then switched to compound is fired up to have his new hickory self bow.

I'll get a picture up in a minute.

That's great. I would have flipped for an opportunity like that. Those kids will learn more than they realize from the experience and will always remember what you guys did for them. Good job!

My Archery foundation was formed in 1972-1974, with the BSA. Those are strong roots. Congratulations, and best of luck with all of their journeys!

Great story, I never was a Boy Scout, but serve on a committee in charge of Camp Jack Wright, a Boy Scout camp that sits adjacent to Tannehill State Park.

I also use this camp as part of my archery range when I have my two traditional archery events every year. This committee has never asked for anything and yet from the participants generosity through buying raffle tickets on items such as bows, arrows and other items, I've been able to donate around $25,000.00 over the years for this camp.

These troop leaders do a great job teaching wonderful skills to these youngsters.

I wish I had the skill to do what the gentleman did for those young men. They'll remember him and hopefully pass that sort of generosity along in their lives.

Thanks all. Many days I think I don't have time to work with the troop. Life sort of overtakes me and I think I don't have time, then I remember this is what life is about. I have good memories of scouting and some fine men working with our troop. Keeps me coming back.
