I have a 1960 Bear Kodiak Special Deluxe recurve that seems to be slightly weaker in the lower limb than in the upper limb. Just for fun, I decided to check the tiller and found nearly a 3/4" difference between the two limbs. This discrepancy got me curious so I checked the tiller on four of my other bows. Only one, the 1959 Kodiak, had nicely balanced limbs. To check the tiller, I measured from the string to where the riser ends between the wood laminations. I realize there would be no reasonable fix for an out-of-tiller bow, but then I don't know if it really matters. I would appreciate hearing any thoughts people have on this matter.

If it came from the factory that way, it should be safe to shoot but a "bear" to tune. If it happened over time, it may not bode well for the integrity or remaining life span of the bow.

Caveat: you are measuring the tiller correctly, but sometimes the fade out can be a little hard to pick out. If the lower limb is visually more bowed than the upper, I would be concerned.

Viper out.

I reckon that it all boils down to this: HOW DOES THE BOW SHOOT FOR YOU?..

Measurements are good-OK..but IF the bows shoots well for you..I'd not worry about it..Jim
