In terms of seeing some nice shootable deer, would you say your season so far has been: A..Above average B.. Below the norm C.. Same old same old or D. Doesn't matter anyway because I couldn't shoot through a barn if the door was open.

From: r-man
Date: 17-Oct-14

c, deer are the same # as normal, my aval time to hunt is E, 12hrs in 2 months, with two misses, and only glimpses of better bucks, they are moveing around so much its harder than norm to get in the right spot. the good news is alot less yotes this yr, and only one set of tracks.

From: Sparkyflint
Date: 17-Oct-14

Lots of does for us; and a good fawn recruitment. I would say I have seen 6-10 on nearly every sit so far this year. I have yet to see even an immature buck but I have game cam evidence of some brutes so I have been staying out of the best areas to see bucks until later in the season or with better wind(s).

Pretty fantastic.

I've had 3 shot opportunities on public land, and for SE Texas that's a lot. I've only had one sit where I didn't see a deer.

Of course, a lot of years of scouting and sitting, and a lot of pre-season preparation made that all possible, but it's sure nice to see the hard work pay off.

I lost my private lease near the house this year, and instead of driving 2 min. to my stand, I drive an hour. I made sure I invested a lot of time up front in scouting and stand locations so I wouldn't waste any trips. So far, so good.

Pretty much the norm for here. I pass on numerous little bucks and does waiting for something mature to come along.

From: redheadlvr

Sux. Haven't got to hunt yet.

From: Skeets
Date: 17-Oct-14

Below the norm. The DNR and EHD has finally accomplished reducing the deer herd. Not only have I not seen many, my son-in-law farms 3000 acres. He has seen very few deer so far while cutting corn. And that is way below normal. Skeet

non existent. Haven't been out yet. In about 9 days I'll be out for a 3 day hunt.

1 NJ doe down in only 1 sit that I sat for the shot and more to go haven't had time yet in NJ to get out anymore. The best is yet to come after next week need to have time then it will start to get good and need to be out. Now in Pa 1 missed buck and 1 stung no deer zone on a non typical in Pa ealrier last week. Last night doe came in at 6:15 left her there she's my bait for the 8's. Life goes on in the bush.LOL

Maybe NJ tonight see what I get finished up or over the weekend its Woodcock time also my setters ready and I'm not. With the cool off the birds with the little bills should be on the move to the southern? Hope so.LOL

Average year so far for me I guess to early to tell. Had i taken one of the Pa. 8's then it would be off to a great start.LOL

As long as health holds up I should be ok I hope. I been trying to do things to keep it solid.

a C so far . Hunted about 6 days , have seen 14 deer , all doe's and half of them were fawns . Missed a chip shot at 15 yds on a big doe . Weather has been humid and rainy for the last several days w/ colder air expected in a couple of days and then a Nor' East'r is due mid week next . Then the game changes as the pre rut will be kicking in and that is always an A+ in my book . Good Luck to all of you !

Havent spent the hours I normally do. But all time in the woods have been great. Ive had some close encounters. But Im waiting on vacation before I really hunt hard Probably the last week of October and the second week of Nov.

I have this guy on my wish list. He's a trophy to me, but all deer are trophys to me.

Mine stinks! I hurt my back and will probably miss the whole season this year

From: stagetek Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member

I have had better. Deer sightings down, and my hunting time has been limited. The rut is about 2 weeks away and my work schedule is nut's, so not going to be a banner year. On the plus side, when I have been out the weather has been really nice. The fall colors here in WI. are peaked and beautiful.

From: voodoo

I've managed to get out 4 times and have yet to see any deer, but those 4 times amount to just under 4 hours total time as I also have back problems and have just been going out behind my pond in my mobility chair and have resorted to using a wheel bow too, while it's extremely nice to get out my season may also be over as I see the surgeon on Monday and will likely be having another fusion as I just cannot go on this way, in so much pain any longer.... Fellas keep on posting your stories because some of us who can't hardly go really look forward to them, thanks, VoodooSteve

Well, opening day of elk had a good bull at 70 yards for my buddy. Compound shooter. Started good. Had a father son team come down to hunt. Had three bulls going and one coming at 300 hundred yards and mad. Then the quad runner hunters started coming. End of hunt. Not so good.

From: Mojostick
Date: 17-Oct-14

I got busted by a doe at about 8 yards, while I attempted to draw on a dead, dead calm evening. Other than that, all reports at my camp are fairly uneventful. A few deer seen, but nothing special. Corn is everywhere and still up, acorns are heavy and it's been warm. Classic Mid-October Lull.

Sucks, I bought a license but I've been in the hospital the 1st week of Oct and a trip to Mayo clinic to find out my surgery is way more complicated than we thought The surgeon says all day operation. 3 days later the Mayo calls and wants to push back the surgery till Nov 7 because he wants to have me for all day. 6 days later I,m back in hospital again still here now ( using hospital I pad now ). Mabye get out tomorrow. Been in the hospital 12 times in 2014 so far. no Hunting for me!! Sucks

Well I have spent more time in the woods this season, and have watched deer from distance... So far, that has been the season. I have had some close encounters with overly young deer, (most of their spots were gone LOL), but have not had a chance to loose an arrow. If I can't pull one out of the hat in the next 2 weeks, then does will be over where I hunt. Lots of tracks, but as warm as it has been I think they are moving at night.

Started off slow here in SEMO on the public land I hunt. I was putting too much emphasis on the kill and not having fun. I slacked off and eased up. Payed off big time. Sat behind some brush in an area I had seen a nice buck in. Ended up shooting a fork horn at 12 yards. Filled my fridge. Im happy.

How would I describe my season so far? Not like I'd hoped, but it'll be better next week.

From: Harleywriter
Date: 18-Oct-14

Mine has been a crappy season...pretty much nonexistent. Is that my fault...yeah, probably up to a point. Quit my job 10 days into the season. Right about then, my son's car breaks down. He has to have a car to drive to his work every Monday and he stays until Thursday. so, I send him out in my truck. Get the car fixed, kinda, and he falls asleep on the way to work and swipes a guard rail. God had an angel on duty with him and he wasn't hurt but the car is back in the shop. And, I really cant hunt from the back of my Harley...wha wha wha!

Live will get better. Might have my truck back by the whitetail rut.

Hang in there Raptor. I have had a stent and then had to be followed up with the old roto rooter...it gives you another 30 or 40 years.

Well, I didn't get a license or tag for deer, elk or bear this year..Over the counter for the Oregon Coast Range..

Still battling with cancer and spinal stenosis( low back)

I did get out for two days in my hunting country..Took along two crawdad traps and my steelhead rig..

Caught about 70 nice 5-6" crawdads and two nice fall run steelheads.,. Saw one nice blacktail buck and heard some Roosevelt bulls bugling...Didn't see any elk tho..:(

I just wasn't in shape to bone and pack out a bull elk by myself this year..

Two sons..One coming home from Afghanistan and the other full time with Union Pacific Rail..couldn't go..

My other old hunting partners are dead or incapacitated.. But I did get out..:)..The smells, sights, sounds are always good..Jim

If we are going down the alphabet mine has reached "X"...Pathetic.....The idiots around here have pounded and pounded and pounded the doe over the last several years there is nothing left. They are so Blind!!!! Killing the doe is killing the future deer herd. One dairy farmer said "I won't have calves in the spring if I kill my cows in the fall"!!!!Every year I get as many doe tags as I can and pitch them out to save the mothers and the future deer but I have no effect in a "if it's brown it's down" mentality :( :( :( .Ready to start fishing in the fall!!!

I've hunted a lot of evenings. I've hunted every weekend. I didn't get to hunt the weekend of the 11th in the AM. Nor the 18th in the afternoon due to weather and a death in the family. I've covered at minimum 15 miles scouting/hunting. I haven't found a spot to revisit yet. More food than I've ever seen. Deer aren't moving. I saw my first two deer of the 4 week old season yesterday morning. I walked up on them scout hunting. Been the toughest season I ever remember. God Bless

Seeing lots of deer. All public land. Passed on a few smaller buck, and young doe, holding out for something with a little size. At least till we get low on deer meat.

Just glad to be hunting.

From: Hoyt
Date: 19-Oct-14

Hunted just about every day since the first of Oct...just mornings most days. Seen deer from stand 4 times. Does and 3 yrling 4pts or so. No shots.

I should have at least 3 does and one of the little bucks by now..but luck was with them. They popped out of thick stuff at about 5 yds are less and smelled me a couple of times and once a little buck was chasing a doe and they both got by me before I could shoot.

Jumped one grown buck..seeing lots of fresh buck sign so may be a good rut and should see some grown ones first cold snap. Deer numbers are way down again from last yr.

Two 1/2 day hunts,(so Far) saw old mule nosed doe and her fawn. First sit. No shot. Small 6 point, an old doe and her 18 m.o. daughter the second sit, plus a herd of tens hogs. Four pushing 250# and six smaller ones. 60# sow ended up in the cooler, so it has been OK.

My season this year? Brief!!! Tagged out in 45 min. of the Statewide opening day in Maine. Luck X 2. Lucky to see one and even luckier when he jumped the string the vintage 45# Bear Kodiak Magnum drove a 2 blade Magnus into his skull at 20 yards. There have been seasons where I see nothing at all. From: Ronin

A. Above average as I have seen deer most days I sat. I have had two opportunities and killed both deer. I have had seasons where I saw one deer the whole season and I have had seasons where I have had 4 or 5 opportunities on deer. This season I have only seen one small fork horn that I can confirm was a buck. I have seen several does and a one button buck. But it only takes one day to change a season from bad to good.

Here in NE Oklahoma it has been kinda slow. The other guys on my property haven't been seeing very many deer. A week ago some chasing was reported but not much. Most of the pictures we have been getting have been at night. If I've seen a deer during a sit, it's either 1 or 2. I did see a doe with twin button buck fawns the other day. However, last Sat. Nov. 8th I called this nice 8 pt in with a grunt call. I had no idea he was around. I just blind called and he started thrashing a tree. He came in looking for a fight.

I've made every rookie mistake a guy can make in my 30th season and have been caught every time. Like texting on stand while sitting and look over with a buck standing broadside at 16 yds., never knew I was there and I couldn't move a muscle. Grunting at a buck 50 yds to my left while two nice does sneak up to 17 yds of my stand on my right and look at this guy making grunts in the tree. Missed a lay up shot at 18 yds cause I didn't shoot low enough and buck ducked the arrow on the shot. There are a few more but this is getting ridiculous. I will not quit however. It's just a year of blunders so far.

I have spent a lot of time on stand and notice that the amount of deer seen since September (NJ/PA) is dropping quickly. The weather has been generally warmer but lots of my days off to hunt have either been rained out or with swirling and shifting winds. I have been able to set eyes on very nice bucks on 3 occasions but each and every time when it was not legal to shoot it for one reason or another. Lots more misses than I like and yet two in the pot. My wife is running out of patience and I think that I may be taking a breather for the next several weeks.

From: blue monday Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

It's always lousy. I live on Cape Cod. LOL How could it get any worse. With an estimated one deer per square mile. We have 10 guys per square mile hunting the same deer. It is kind of comical to see guys posting pictures of 4 and 5 deer during archery season. They would be challenged to see 5 deer here in a 6 week season. It makes you feel like your really doing things right just to see deer here. Oh well once my son has graduated from school we will leave this sandbar.
