Well guys I am in the market for a 52" or under recurve. I am leaning toward a new Kodiak Magnum because the used prices are almost half for what I can get a new bow for. What are some other good bow makers out there besides Bear?

Toelke makes a Kestrel that is 52" AMO, it's about 48-49" nock-to-nock when strung. I'm impressed by it (fairly new to me).

Check out Journeyman bows. The bowyer makes a 52" takedown recurve that is beautiful. Might be my next one.

You can't beat a K-Mag especially if your funds are limited. Used ones go from $200 to $300 depending on the condition and who is selling it. I have a '73 that's a superb shooter. I paid $300 a few years ago. It is in almost excellent condition. Good luck with whichever you choose. Frank

I shoot the Cascade Golden Hawk Magnum, which is 52" but available in 48" also. It shoots wonderfully and I recommend it highly. I do very well at local 3-D shoots, even though most of the guys I beat tell me that longer bows are more accurate ;)

I believe Jeffrey Archery offers a 52" Mity Mag, reasonably priced, very similar to the K-Mag. Two Tracks offers a 50" and 52" recurve and Fedora makes a good one that's quick.

Are they comparable to a K-Mag or noticeably worse?

There is no stacking or finger pinchs in short bows at 28 to 29 that do that in light bows that I ever saw yet. Guys with longer draws might pick it up plus when you have lighter bows under 50 theres never any stack noticable. I have one of this short bows Kenbrooks and theres no pinch with that bow either its a danndy litte stick.
K-mags I never had pinchs with either and I'm almost to 29 like 28 3/4 buy the time I let go.

So many beautiful and functional used bows out there can't see the need to buy new. Agree with the recommendation of the Kodiak Magnum...I have a 1967 and a 1976. The Browning Cobra 1 at 50" is a fast accurate bow.

I shoot a Gainsville KMag & draw 29". I like it & don't really notice any finger pinch or stacking. I do have to really pay attention to my form though. It's a fun bow & I've taken a LOT of carp with this bow, it's 45lb @28.
I will also recommend the Fox Breed it's a fantastic bow. Mine's a 58" bow.

Kmag or the Herters, get an old one, cheap. Then if you don't like it you're not out a bundle. I picked up a 70s Kmag greenie for $75, great shape, fun bow to shoot, but after shooting 60" bows for so long, it sat around so much, I gave it to a friend who was getting interested in shooting. He's drawing 30+ inches and he loves it, I offered him a longer bow, but he thought the Kmag was sweet.

Orion...I disagree somewhat, certain bowyers know how to make a short bow work with long draws, I used to think the same with my 30+ draw until I shot a elberg jaguar mite 54" 61@30, no finger pinch to speak of and no stacking, I was blown away, couldn't put it down and bought it!

A buddy inherited a Shakespear 50" Cascade (from George's add up above) from another friend of ours and that's a GOOD LITTLE BOW! Really wide limbs! 2 1/2"! Phenolic riser for added mass. Very cool!
I also own and shoot a Kodiak Magnum.
Both great little bows but neither hold a candle to my Saluki Turk 54"! Course that's something like $1,000 new for a bow with a bit more speed!
