Does anyone shoot the Siberian wolf or the black wolf, I am thinking of trying to find one. How do they compare to other LBs?

Yes I have 80# 66" lefty. It's a rolls royce in longbow! It's a very nice fast shooting bow very accurate I call it my retirement bow! Since I shoots bows over 120#. but there's other bows that are very high quality like big Jim bows Howard hill longbows I also I'm a fan of bama bows. Now if you can get a jack Harrison bow made from him buy it!

I just sold an el lobo yesterday. Great bows and well worth the money.

I own two made by Jack. An American Wolf and a Howard Hill Commemorative. I hop I can get another HSS before it's too late. Would also like to have a Siberian Wolf.

I found a couple lefty bows recently that I really NEED. So, I have a right-handed HSS I'd be willing to sell. I also have a lefty American Wolf I would sell.

As previously stated above, these are superb shooters.

I have a Lobo made by Jack, two black wolf bows made by Alaska Frontier Archery (Jack was part of that in the beginning but neither are signed by Jack so probably built by someone else) and finally a more recent black wolf made by Jim Fisk as he now owns the black wolf design and still makes them. That's all I shoot these days as I've sold everything else. For me the Harrison designs I have are the smoothest shooters I've found to date. Briefly, the Lobo is shorter at 62" and has a stiffer draw curve with no hand shock. It is really picky with the quality of the release but throws a fast heavy arrow. The black wolves are 66" and 68" and have a gentle draw curve that are tolerant of the occasional sloppy release. There is a very subtle low frequency vibration at the end of shot on the black wolf but is not what I'd call hand shock. They are not as fast as the lobo but I find that I enjoy shooting them the most. I will add that Jim Fisk's black wolf is the highest quality of all four and shoots faster than my older AFA black wolves.

Thanks for the above info and the PMs,Seems like they are great Longbows but maybe not worth what you have to pay for one unless you are wanting to collect them

I traded for one of Jack's Black Wolf a few years ago and do agree with those who praise it's shooting attributes. However, I had trouble getting used to that huge "tennis racket" type straight grip and moved it on down the road. It would certainly be a winner for those who love large straight grips.

That straight grip is the only thing that I can see that might bother me. I have tried a couple of HHs that I did not care for the straight grip.

Yeah, the big handled straight grip needed for the take down joint is a common comment. Not sure why but I find it works well for me but it is not for everyone.

In terms of price, my collection are all used bows so I've picked them up somewhere between 600-$800. Watch out for the older Alaska Frontier Archery versions as the brass sleeve in the joint can develop a noise on the draw as it slips relative to the limb material. It's not structural issue but not a good feature for concentrating or hunting. I has been fixed in my two AFA bows but it takes some fiddling. Also note Jack came up with a fix for this sometime after the AFA era so as far as I know this is not an issue for newer versions (post AFA).

I had Blackwolf, HHC, and el lobo the are fast and smooth. My last el lobo blew up after 12 years of shooting. They say they are not ment for 28" draw. I would love to have one of those again but never found one in my draw weight again and sense I shoot 28" Jim said he wouldn't make me one so I guess no el lobo for me great bow thought

Having never shot a pure straight grip before, I was a little apprehensive about it. But I found out that I love a straight grip.

What are the recommended vdraw lengths for the various models?

The issue of some not being suitable for 28"+ is a concern for me.

Doug, I believe for that info that Leo Markert, who goes by longbowleo on here, and Justin Newell "newell38" would be the best to answer that. If Justin don't chime back in, private message me and I can give you Leo's contact info. He is a joy to speak with and an encyclopedia of archery knowledge and history.
