I have always been a Black Widow recurve shooter. I started shooting a Big Jims Buffalo bow almost a year ago. My goal was to shoot a LB as well as I shot my Widow. Well my dilema is that I tried to shoot my Widow the other day and it no longer felt right. This bow has always been my security blanket. I think I'm growing up and I don't like it.

I gave up on my Widows a few years ago and never looked back. The only specific reason was I became tired of the forward riser. I've been happily shooting my vintage bows as well as a new longbow. Just as happy. Frank

Tradbow, Couple of questions for you to consider:

Did you shoot the BW bow well?

Are the two bows pretty close in draw weight and do you draw the same length with either?

Recurves have different ergonomics for physical weight and hand placement than longbows..

I can make the switch pretty easily form recurve to longbow.. For others..it can be more difficult..Jim

You should probably just sell that old thing, and buy a couple more longbows....

Dire Wolf, I do shoot the Widow well. Always like the physical weight and the Asbell grip. I seem to draw about an inch shorter with the LB. I have shot the LB strictly trying to learn how to shoot it. I really like the low wrist grip and lighter physical weight bow.

Tradbow, Since getting the longbow..do you still shoot the BW recurve well?..

It may be that the way your arm, hand, wrist are that the straighter handled longbow is more ergonomic for you...

On my own recurves, I prefer not so much of a deep pistol grip..

About 17 degrees angle is good for me..Longbows are pretty straight-handled..I shoot the same length arrows with either type bow...30.5" to back of point..Jim

I have only shot my recurve once since getting the longbow. I just felt weird and I was getting for a 3-d shoot. I haven't spent much time with it. Maybe she was just mad because I was neglecting her

I won't say that I have the same concern, however I too shoot both I have a PMA 50# and a HHA ASL Wesley Special also 50# at my draw length. I do take the PMA for an "outing" every now and then and find that I am maybe a tad more accurate with it after I ajust to the difference between the bows. I really enjoy them both but right now I'm trying my best to equal my accuracy with the L B to that of the accuracy I enjoy with the B W I'm just a shade away from doing so. I haven't done so yet but I have been thinking about holding a contest between the two and see which one scores the highest.

That's too bad - how much do you want for the Widow - ha!

Only own and shoot one bow. I heard a saying once: Beware of the guy that only shoots one bow.

I for years tried making the switch to longbows but they never felt right and I didn't shoot them well but I decided to shoot only a long bow until I could shoot it well but as you pointed out I then didn't shoot my recurve well. I wanted to do both so started shooting half my practice time with my recurve and the other half my longbow, it took some time but now I shoot both just as well.

I can't get away from my longbows, try to shoot recurve now and then

I had a 54# GN super ghost and a centaur 54# longbow with a medium grip. There wasn't much difference in the 50s style grip on the ghost and the one on the centaur so I could transition pretty well. I don't think I could so well between a straight longbow and a recurve with a deep grip.
