American Archery's top hunting bow was the Cheetah from the mid 50's well into the 70's. First in Clarendon Hills, Il, then after 67 to Oconto Falls, Wi. Can't see it well but it almost has to be an American.

PaPa Doc - I have see just about every bow American Archery ever made (from Clarendon Hills). From the silk backed yew longbows, to their Oconto Falls bows, to their last gasp in Minn. I hung out in their showroom in the summer as a kid. I bought and shot my first laminated recurve in their tryout range. I do not ever remember seeing a Cheetah Stamped leather grip like yours. It must be a display bow with a one off leather grip. I was there with my Mom and Dad in 1955-56. After that I got my first bike and was back and forth all the time. Never saw a leather grip like that. How cool!

I've had a few like yours. The foil label should have red on it and it should read Cheetah Supreme. AA had different levels of Cheetahs. It differed year to year. Cheetah Standard, Supreme, Special, Hunter Special, and Special Hunter. A little confusing. I had a huge rise red Cheetah Supreme Target recurve from around 1963-4. It was a knockout. I also had an earlier Cheetah Supreme, that was a hunting model and not very fancy. The AA recurve I'm still waiting to find is their top-o-the-line hunting recurve. AA version of the Super K, called the All Pro Custom. I finally got one, looked great, bought it sight unstrung. It blew/exploded/self destructed dramatically upon stringing it up the first time.

PaPa Doc, your bow also has the original felt arrow rest and the original, looks just like a Ben Pearson(?) strike plate. I can't get over that Cheetah Grip, that is the ultimate 50's vintage Cheetah.

My first real hunting bow was a 48lb Cheetah Standard and still my favorite.
I've told this story many times..but one of our club members stole it back in the late 60's or early 70's. I was a member of bow only hunting club with locked gate and left my bow up in the tree, climbed down with my pole climbers. Left them at base of tree and went to camp site for lunch.
Got back for evening hunt, pole climbers and bow were gone.

So it's a Cheetah Special. Nice riser wood, Brazilian Rosewood with a Bubinga I beam(?). I'm a sucker for those I beam risers. American Archery also put a thin lam of Maple between those riser woods. Handsome contrast between the darker woods. Have you had a chance to shoot either one of your bows? Nice bonus!
