Saturday, October 4, begins my 50th year of bowhunting in Pennsylvania. Don't know where the time goes, by golly. My first real hunting bow was a 1965 Bear Cub, 45#, and a handful of cedar arrows with Bear Razorheads. It was pretty much what I could afford on my $50.00 per week salary, but it sure shot good....much better than I could shoot it at the time.

Fast-forward a mere fifty years and I'm heading to the woods with a bow that was already about eight years old when I started hunting. It's an old Parabow, solid fiberglass. Cedar arrows and MA-3 broadheads make up the rest of my armaments. So even though we can't go back fifty years, we can still use bows and arrows that were available back then; if for nothing more than to make us a 19 year old once more. Good luck to all of you either already into or just starting your seasons. Enjoy....we don't know how many we will get.

Like the song says, don't blink

Hopfully you'll enjoy many more.

What's the weather like up there if you don't mind me asking?

About 80+ here and humid as all get out. Almost knee deep going in to the stand.

Saturday is calling for low to mid 60's, so I can enjoy that. Today it was 79. 8^)

Oct 1 for us in Ok. Supposed to be warm with thunder showers, I may need to wait a day, we'll see. Good luck George, if you do kill one I hope it's on the mountain at Buck's so you have a downhill drag. Happy hunting and be safe to all, Eric

Last year was my 50th year for Whitetails. Small game before that because there were no deer around here! Way things are going,I guess it was my last.

If I counted sparrows and blackbirds with my lilac limb bow, it would be 60 years. 8^). Fifty is long enough for right now.

"So even though we can't go back fifty years, we can still use bows and arrows that were available back then; if for nothing more than to make us a 19 year old once more."

George, I've never heard a better or more eloquent explanation for why I'm drawn to vintage bows.

THat is a lot of time, and history George. I think you hit on a great reason so many of us hunt with this gear, because many of us somehow are taken back to when we first started bowhunting. Great pic of the bow and gear. It says everything

Good luck George. I have been bowhunting for a mere 21 years myself. This year however will be my first with traditional gear. I feel exactly like I did 21 years ago when I set afield for the first time with a compound in hand.. SUPER excited. Thank you for an awesome post and sharing your knowledge with all of us here on the Wall..

Well Phil, we didn't have the internet experts to help us, so we struggled. 8^). You Cambria/Somerset County guys kept us in business back in the late 70's when we had our archery shop. ))

George, Hope your adventures are very enjoyable ..I've been hunting with the bow for about 55 years..Just about everything around that walked, ran, crawled, leaped, or flew..:)

I still feel that same attraction for basic good, functional bows and arrows..

I don't feel like I'm nine years old these days..physically anyhow..But the wife says I sometimes ACT like I'm nine years old..:) Jim

Happy Anniversary!

Celebrating my 36th and wondering how it went by so fast and how I can still recall that first hunt so dang vividly like it was yesterday.

Here's to many many more, guys!
