Here is a video I did just to talk a bit about the advantages to hunting on the ground, and also later in the video, I give a few tips as to how I've been successful.

Great video. Deer were being killed thousands of years before the treestand came along. Here in south Alabama the deer do look up for sure.

Nice job Ryan........Kinda glad most hunters find it too difficult to shoot a buck this way. Been hunting like this since 1967.

Nice job and thoughts. It was mentioned that deer are used to hearing leaves being rustled so don't be afraid to clear the area where you are standing. This is true in that a buck scrapes the leaves and fresh dirt and makes all kinds of noise and fresh dirt scent. So get ready, because a buck will come and investigate who's making a new scrape. Thanks Ryan, I needed to watch that video. This is my first year hunting with traditional equipment from the ground after years of using a modern bow and the typical tree stands, etc. I'm getting busted on a regular basis and learning that I have an awful lot to learn. Confidence has been very low lately. I actually had a deer blow five times last night because it got in my scent cone. It didn't see me but it knew I was there. Amazing. I'm hunting a small parcel of private ground in the middle of the big Wisconsin woods. Can't do much about the deer that are on someone else's ground I guess.. I'm taking a weeks vacation the end of this month to hopefully just hit the start of the rut. I'll peruse your other vids and see what else I can find.

Im at work so I cannot watch this video right now....BUT simplelife, I started with a recurve last year and hunted mostly from the ground. It is frustrating! Im in MD and our season started September 5th this year. I have been busted drawing on 3 different deer this season. Everytime a different situation. Everytime I learned something new. I will stick one with my recurve as every hunt I get better and learn more...Patience is what I am lacking now I think. Im all about trying to get the shot at the first oppurtunity, especially if I am on the ground and they are inside 15 yards. The wind messed me up on one occasion too. I was set up, nose in the breeze perfectly. Looking where I figured deer would come from. Well, they came from that general direction, but behind me. One big doe had to take one more step but she was approaching dead down wind of me. She was mid stride taking that step and I was coming to full draw. She literally changed direction mid stride so her rump was in my clearing and stuck her nose in the air. She carried on blowing and stomping around for 10 solid minutes. She actually stomped her way up to 8 yards from me before she picked me out but she was facing me head on. Exciting yes. Frustrating absolutely. But I love it!!!!!!! My confidence gets shaken too but I try and tell myself I must be doing something right before I screw it up to be within 15 yards of deer right?

Thanks. Helpful to this neophyte hunter with a dicey back who has trouble sitting still in tree stands for hours.
