So yesterday afternoon I got up in a tree saddle at 4:30 (6:40 sunset).
I was thinking "quick evening hunt' and didn't bring as much stuff with me. About an hour in I got a tickle in my throat (think I inhaled a gnat) and count get rid of it. Went to get a sip of water and realized I had left it in the truck. Didn't have any throat lozenges or spray....
I coughed through a grunt tube. An attempt at a save.

A buddy of mine missed a chance at a great buck once because he was busy choking on a "Root Beer Barrel" candy. Pounding his own back against the tree to try to dislodge it as the deer watched him;-)

I keep my "stuff" in my fanny pack and my fanny pack on my self. That eliminates the need to go back to the truck for anything. You may want to try a head net to keep gnats away from your breathing tubes. 8)

I have actually seen deer on more than one occasion after having a coughing fit. I don't recommend it though.
I wish I was like George and never forgot anything on my way to the deer stand. :)

I carry a thick piece of towel or something. I fold it up and bury my face in it to cough. Seems like it always happens to me.

lowcountry, I would forget it if I didn't keep it in my fanny pack. My pack is like my quiver, I don't go to the woods without it. I know how forgetful I can be.

George, Normally I am a 'place for everything and everything in it's place' kind of guy. I have been reducing gear and consolidating packs....so I DIDN'T have a fanny pack or haversack....and it was hot so didn't have a vest or coat and the Saddle makes cargo pockets hard to get to.
Perfect storm :)
Won't make that mistake again.

Amen to that George. That's why I remember every single deer that I DIDN'T kill.

Something that works for me most times:..when you feel a cough or a sneeze coming on bite the tip of your tongue.or pinch the inside of your thigh..not working!? Then reach up a little and give a good squeeze to anything you find dangling!..this may not work for females!...Sandy. ..
