Nice find! Looks like a BP Palomino. I love cleaning then up to find the vintage beauty underneath the grime. That would make my day.

From: fdp
Date: 20-Sep-14

I think MStyles nailed it, either a Palomino or Cougar depending how you measured it. Good shootin' old bows by the way.

It it stamped 66"

Looks like it's going to clean up nice.

From: MStyles

On second thought, did BP ever stamp specs? Maybe it's American Archery. They stamped specs in the 50's.

From: MStyles
Date: 20-Sep-14

I know American Archery used that kind of strike plate like BP. I had a couple of AA archery prototype bows. No labels, just spec stamped like yours. One was a real strange bird with Rosewood and Maple riser like yours but funky re-curved limbs, with similar tip overlays.

Looks like an old "Root" bow to me,"GameMaster" maybe?

From: HUMPY
Date: 20-Sep-14

My Root has stamped specs.

From: woodshavins

Looks a little like my '59 Shakespeare/Root RH300. Not a 300 but the possible Root connection is intriguing. Root did stamp their early bows in that fashion, so yet another clue. Where is Cameron?

Now thats a good find was first thinking Pearson myself but then looked a little closer and not sure now. At any rate good string and set up and nice matched set of arrows and she should be a joy to shoot and get interesting remarks.

I'll be getting it sanded down and a new finish. May be able to tell more, when the true colors come out. There a gold air brushed stripe on the right side under the clear, that's gota go. Jeff

Definitely Not a Palomino and almost certainly not a Pearson. Pearson didn't stamp specs into the riser like others did. They always from the start of their lam bows wrote the specs. and used a CAT number to indicate model. Looks to be more Rootish than anything

Never seen tip overlays on a pearson that look like that either.

There was a company called bow blanks I believe. Was part of Root Archery. Lawrence Root might know. Tips look like somebody else's. Here's a pick of my 50's Roots. Cameron

American archery company

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

It's American Archery, not Pearson or Root...An Clarendon Hills, Il bow. Right around a 1960 give or take a year.

Thank you George. I had it at a shoot today and that is what a couple came up with also, one was an older guy and the other was papadoc. And thanks all the others for your thoughts and input. I'm still going to rub it down this winter I hope, its kinda growing on me:) Jeff F

I had a Plyflex a few years ago that looked just like it and it was a fabulous shooter. Lots of companies used those maple/walnut vertical laminates back then.

Yes...the decals was pretty simple. The overlays also give a big clue. I have had several of the Clarendon Hills bows with those same tip overlays. If I were to wage an educated guess, I would say it's a Cheetah from the late 50's...59'ish...maybe even 60 or 61.

From: bodymanbowyer

This bow ends being, white glass on back, tan on belly and maple lams. Maple and purple heart riser. And still pulls 45#. Its nice shootin and sharp looking bow. Thanks for your help George. Jeff F

From: Drewster

Jeff, I can't give you any definitive info on the ID, but you've got a fine looking bow. It's a good bit different from my Cheetah, but not doubt changes were made from year to year. My Cheetah has stamped numbers on the riser and a sticker on the upper belly. Keep up the good work.

Keep us posted. And thanks for the additional images.

There are still a little bit of stamp markings still on the riser but never had a sticker. Oh well. Its a great shooter. Thanks for looking and everybodys help trying to figure what it is. Jeff F

From: bodymanbowyer

Joe, I used Minwax Helmsman spar urethane satin. After I filled the grain on purpleheart with big Jim's Buffalo gloss epoxy. I use gloss so it doesn't get milky then satin last 3 finish coats. Jeff F
