My Wife told me she wants a bow for her B-day. I am going to get her a Samick Sage 35@28. She is short and will probably only draw about 25 inches so around 27lbs. I have no clue what arrow to get her. Would prefer to order bow and arrows (shafts) at the same time from 3 Rivers. We are stationed in Puerto Rico so I can't run down to the local archery shop and get arrows to try. Any help on selection is greatly appreciated .

My granddaughter shoots a 29# drawn go about 25" and uses 1716 with 75 grain tips. I suspect a 1616 would work fine at 28 or 29 inches. I believe they are 30" full length. If they don't have aluminum, an .800 carbon with 100 grain tips ought to work out also. Start full length and trim them to fit spine.

Bought a Sage for my wife a couple of months ago. She is pulling about 26# @ 26" shooting 27.5" arrows. Shooting Carbon Impact Super Cub 10/20 and they flight great. I thought this would be a week-long interest, then park the bow on the rack. I was wrong. She shoots almost daily, and is doing pretty good.
Bought the arrows from a recommendation on this forum. Turned out to be good advice.

You don't need tough for a 25# bow, you need flexible. A 15/35 will likely be too stiff as that is a .600 spine...same as a 1916. The 15/35 number is irrelevant and doesn't mean squat. It's about deflection. In carbon you want closer to .800 even if using 125 out front.

I'm with ya tradarcherychamp. I figured with the cut on the Samak shelf it would be fine.

Squat, deflection and what will work.only suggestion George, because I do shoot carbon. Maybe they don't even want carbon, might want wood. Carbon stays straight or its broke that all.

Woods are so frustrating when starting out cuz you tend to get into how good they look and then they break :( best to start with carbons.

Thanks for all of the input. Going to get some 15/35 GT's Blems from Big Jim's since I need a few more arrows myself. May grab a few light aluminums from 3Rivers when I order the bow. Got stuff to make a new FF string since the one that comes with it doesn't sound very well made.

My ole lady shoots a Predator recurve, 46#@28". At her draw length she's pulling 41-42#. Her arrows are GT 1535@ 27½" with 145 gr. They fly awesome and hit hard for light poundage. I think they may work for your wife.Good luck.

going to need CX 800's to work well for her. The 1535s are going to be too stiff.

All of the above suggestions will work. One other method of selection regardless of arrow is to choose an arrow spine no greater then 500 spine 600 or 500 spine would work well.MY WIFE Shoots a 30#. Aluminum arrows are heavier and drop fast at ranges longer the 15 yds. She finds carbons are best suited for her bow weight particularly if she's shooting 3D with us. She gets True Flite up to 25 yds and then the arrow starts to arc. She is not proficient beyond 30yds Hail Mary after that. She does not Hunt. Good luck.

I'm only 5'2" and use 1716s with 125 grain screw-in points for my indoor winter league bow. It is a youth Samick Polaris with 40#@28" limbs. Nice small hand-grip.
When I use it outside in the woods I use sturdy carbon full length Goldtip 1535 blems that I order from Big Jim's Bows. I only have to use 125 grain points.
For the Bowhunter Safety Class I swapped-out the 125 grain points for 175 grain and 200 grain points. The bows we use for people who don't bring their own are 30#@28" PSE fiber glass recurve take-downs from the 1980's. Tall women use the 175 grain 1535s and short women use the 200 grain 1535s.
I've never heard a report of a man coming to class without his own bow. I don't know how a 1535 would fly at a full 28" draw.

I'm telling you guys that if you ever try a CX 800 for bows of 37lbs on down to 20lbs, you won't ever go back! you might think your .600 spine arrows such as the 1535's fly well, but the cx 800s will fly better and cast farther/flatter.
a 30" cx 800 only weighs about 180g. Add a 80 g glue in point and a 11 g nock and a full length arrow will only weigh about 280 with glue and feathers tops.
A full length gold tip 1535 will weigh 250g without even adding a point. Couple that with it being considerably stiffer and the 800 wins out every time.
Don't let the 1535 name fool you in to believing that they are for 15-35 lb bows as they are not.
Gold tip blems...$58 with a dozzen points CX 800 heritage..$69 with a dozzen points...glue in points are $15.99
thanks, bigjim

Soldier -
First off, make sure SHE is comfortable with that weight for more than one or two "test" draws. Determining her real draw length with a stupid light (like < 10#) draw check bow is step one.
If she is in the 25# range at her draw, start with full length 1616s. Easton Jazz arrows are fine. When and if she's ready to start tuning, they will tell you if they are too stiff or too weak and then you can adjust accordingly - if you have too. Keep the arrow long until her form settles.
Viper out.

Thats all well and good. My missus decided to take up archery after not having shot in 20 years. She consequently pinched my premium arrow blank shafts for her own use. These shafts are made from exceptionally good near perfect wood. This quality of wood only comes around on rare occaisions. It took 3 years to find wood that good. I do how ever have enough wood left over to at least get a set or two for me. I had better start footing some shafts I supose. She ain't getting my next set though. OSR
