Finished my first real bow, besides board bows. Osage 55@26, shot 100 arrows, added fake snakeskin, just need to put a finish on. Trying to add some pics.

Sharp bow better than my Osage bow,o wait I've never made one. I haven't tried to tackle a scrape down yet. Good job. Jeff F

Thanks everyone. Jawge, 61" bow- 4" handle and 2" fades, so 8". Braced pic is showing top part of garbage can behind bow.

Nice build on your osage bow, looks good.

It's a great feeling to make a self bow, isn't it? A successful board bow is good, but (to me) a successful self bow is golden. Still working on my first Osage selfbow, going too slow, but I hate putting in all the effort only to have it blow 'cause I got impatient. I still love Hickory, but Osage is special. Nice job on your bow.

Cutty, the only advice I can offer is put a mark at the the fades and make sure the stave is starting.

I would not touch this one but it looks like you could have some more near handle wood bending.

Just something to watch for the future.

Nice.

Thanks again everyone, and Jawge thanks for the tip, I can see that now. So it would be bad to scrape a little more by handle?

From: George Tsoukalas
Date: 18-Sep-14

No, I'd leave this one alone, Cutty. It was a suggestion for the future. It is something I had to watch in my early days. Jawge

Nice job cutty! George is right as Jim Rempp gave me the same advice.....I was making my fades too gradual and giving up some working limb area. This is especially critical as the bow gets shorter, you want to maximize your limb potential.

Jim Neaves and I just put this rattlesnake skin on a douglas hawthorne bow this morning.....skins are wet in the picture but I zoomed in to show an example of less gradual fades and what they look like.

Have a problem, Quiver won't fit on limbs. Its a selway soft tote and its to narrow. I could cut it but then it wouldn't fit other bows. Heading on deer hunt here pretty quick. Any idea's????

Side quiver GFA style, make one from a game tracker or quicky quiver. Cut top an bottom off extend with wood and leather strapping so you can throw over shoulder and head. Wear swung down on side or push up middle of back. Points down. Jeff F
