I thought since we have threads that suggest we ought to make it "tougher", I'd start one that really separates the "traditional hunter" from the poser. How about the "Loin Cloth" challenge? I was trying to come up with one that seemed honest enough. And since we seem to have the romantic among us, I'd give them the chance to really celebrate their pride.
So, what you say. Hunt only from the ground, with self bow and cane arrows, flint knapped heads, sinew bow string, rawhide homemade quiver, wearing nothing but a loin cloth!!!!!!!!!! Yeah my brothers, this is going to be exhilarating and liberating at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's do it guys!!!!!!
BTW, I was knocking around which was more traditional, and even though "ground hunting with a loin cloth and no toilet paper" is more extreme and primitive, I'm currently fitting a bout of Poison Ivy. So, I just couldn't do it but, if you feel obligated, don't let my weakness or impurity stop you my brothers!!!!!!
Good luck. If you do kill something, feel free to pass on a picture thread unless your wife posses with the prize in her loin cloth. Yeah!!!!!!!!

Not for me WV. there ain't enough camo make-up to hide my pasty white frame that see's little sun through the summer. Also, I don't think I'm allergic to poison ivy but I don't want to find out differently either. I'll stick to traditional as we know it, and debate about some times, good ol' wool and flannel. Now, if you can prove that Fred Bear, Howard Hill, or Ben Pearson did it then.....nah, I still wouldn't. I left Ishi out for a good reason.

Great idea!!! I would just add that you have to actually make your own"self bow" and other equipment instead of using someone else's. 8^)

What's traditional about a loin cloth, unless you are in the 1880's and a Native American. You are confusing the term. Primitive yes. Most folks I know should not wear them ....anywhere....anytime.

Poison ivy and multiflora rose briars around here. And it gets cold. No way. No hunting in a loin cloth. (I did wear only a loin cloth with my Speedo under it to a college Fraternity party) Clothes and toilet paper were invented for a reason. Skeet

That would pretty much assure nobody would be sneaking into your hunting grounds a second time (once they saw you). Of course, if my wife saw me leave the house in a loin cloth, it would pretty much prove everything she's said about me for the last 32 years.

The first test is whether someone calls it a "loin cloth" or a breechclout.
Second: it's the 18th century eqiuivalent of a Speedo and if your body mass index is over 18 you might better go with the fat, pasty trader outfit with a powdered wig.

My wife is watching QVC -it appears cotton. Has to be "600 thread count" to be worthy. I dunno, but out here wool might be closer to being the right material, as mornings and e enings are 40 degrees off mid day temps. Seems like I saw Ishi in a fashionable model, from the turn of the last century. Traxx, good opportunity for you to show off the "ghost chicken" thing again

I didn't go the "loin cloth" route, but I did make some tie-up shorts with skins, that's what I used... no advantage over a breech cloth other than less of you guys would make fun of me (that was the idea anyways)
A couple of points and myths about being scarcely clothed in the woods... chiggers and ticks will tear you up.. wrong. Although I used beautyberry as very effective repellent, chiggers and ticks love warm clothing. Now wear to hide without clothes and I actually sustained fewer bites last year than any other year.
"you'll get snakebit" - wrong.. nope, didnt get snakebit.. in fact, I was more aware of where I put my bare feet than if i had shoes on, plus clothing only makes you "feel" better around snakes.... venomous snakes will bite right through your pants, socks, even shoes.
"you'll freeze" Nah, it's not that bad. Once you harden your body up and get used to it, it really isn't that bad (im talking 40-50 degree FL weather, no snow. Need long skins for colder)
It was a good experience though. Teaches you a bit more about hunting.. it really hones your senses when your body is exposed to the air. Whether mental or not, it seems to open your mind.
