I hope this is an acceptable topic, if not I apologize...It's seems that at least some fellows on here are "men of faith", so I would hope you could relate. It's not my intention to proselytize, just to share my experience. A few months ago, I realized that archery had taken center stage in my life, it truly was nearly all I thought about, but one day, I decided that I could no longer in good conscience abide by that; so, I turned my back on it. I didn't get rid of anything, just put it down & left it alone. I turned my attention to other more important things. Within the past week or so, I found that I was able to take it up again, only this time to put it in its rightful place, which is as a hobby that shouldn't demand so much attention. I feel as though it is a gift, now that I was willing to sacrifice my joy in it for the greater good. Thanks

Amen God has taught me a lot about myself during times like this muself too. he's also allowed me to do some things that had later proved to be pretty good lessons on who he is to me. The blessing as well as the protections can not be measured.

Archery has always been center stage for me...since 1958. That 's a bad thing? A lot worse you could be doing!

I think I know why Joe did this. Steve, you warned me a long time ago about divorce potential being consumed as a collector. Constantly looking for that deal, on the computer and phone. I have found myself guilty of not paying attention to family as I should. Drug addict looking for the next fix. You are right Steve; a lot worse that we could be doing.

Im not a religious man. I used to be but that's another story. Your belief is strong and that is to be respected. God did not qualify Archery in your life. God only gave you the INSTINCTS to carry it thru. So stop asking god for all your answers. He gave you the intellect to manage that part. With values in place, you blaze your own path and decide for yourself if your Archery is occupying to much of your time. If occupies all of our time as well. We don't turn to God for guidance. That's what wives are for. Good luck

There are things that are important to us like bowhunting, archery, careers, hobbies ect, things we enjoy, things that are temporal, nothing wrong with that, and nothing wrong with doing them.
"All things are lawful, but not all things are expedient"
Then there are things that are eternal. Things that are everlasting, I'm glad i can enjoy both.
But i have hope only in things eternal. Keep all things in their proper place
Best wishes

Thank you guys...I guess when you get older, when you've got less time ahead than behind, things have a way of putting themselves in perspective. It's good to be involved in something that has such a caring and edifying community, though. I suppose we could call ourselves the Brotherhood of the Bare Bow; or maybe the Fellowship of the Flemish String...

It is not, is archery a bad thing, it is, has it become the most important thing , if it has ,we may need to back up and reconsider. Then we can put archery in its rightful place. That place will be different in each life.

Wow, well said Sir, a two week vacation from cell phones, tv,s , computers and my Bows , opened my eyes as well. This is like an addiction. The two week lay off made me realize I have needed to review Priorities. There will always be room for archery, just won't be number one. Thanks for sharing.

been there done that, put the bow away for 10 years when the kids were born, until the oldest could hunt. I tend to be obsessive with certain things, and let them run much more of my life than I should, archery was definitely one one of those now the kids are in college, it could be again. oz

Moderation is the key to everything. Archery has probably saved as many folks as otherwise and it can open you up to a great social life too. It's up to the one doing it.

Archery is a fine pastime. Glad I'm not the only one to realize it isn't the reason for living.
Few Americans have a clue that hobbies and entertainment are not the reasons for living. Like Solomon, we only realize that when we have had our fill of them.
Shoot well.

Amen Wayfarer. No need to apologize to this guy. Prioritize the "real" things in life because life sometimes becomes just "one big hobby". +++

Ha.... I forgot that conversation Shane...good point! I assume it's much different for those with kids and family... and religion. I have none of those... just a good wife of thirty years who also has a consuming hobby....HORSES! And also enjoys archery, muzzleloaders, and hunting! My collecting passion has stagnated since retirement.....no money. My health is such that mechanic side work is no longer an option. That used to be my mad money! Never spent a Nickle of a regular paycheck on archery. So I guess my priorities weren't TOO screwed up!

All things in moderation they say. Seems once a guy gets his heart right everything else in life suddenly falls in line. Had to learn that lesson myself, and thank God I did! Welcome Back!
