I have seen post where people wonder just how accurate selfbows are compared to their more advanced laminated glass bows.

Well, this evening my new hickory selfbow and I just outshot every bow I have or ever had. 20 yard 4" group... with cedar arrows. I have made selfbows before, but when you get one lined up just right, and tuned well with a set of arrows, you can expect pretty startling accuracy.

A deer is going to fall next month in NC!

Hickory selfbow... #44@27"... 64" NTN fastflight string.

You'll love it. Accuracy is in the shooter, not the bow. A good shooter will have no issues with any bow, given a little time to become friends with it.

Yep,it's always the archer, not the bow.

Nice work on both the bow and the shooting, Jack.

Any bow will launch an arrow the same way every time - they are all ultimately accurate. The variation or "inaccuracy" is in the operator........We're destined to fail, not the bow. And speaking of bows, I really like yours, best of luck with it this fall. :)

While true it's largely up to the shooter, some bows are inherently easier or harder to shoot well. Even(or especially) within the realm of selfbows alone, there can be very drastic differences.

While the archer and his form from the drawing to the loose are paramount in importance...WHATEVER bow one uses must be stable and well tillered...AND the arrows one uses should be matched to the bow and archer well.. The whole archery pass-time is about hitting the mark.. One will do that more consistently IF he and the bow-arrows are matched up properly and his form is consistent..Jim

Mike PRince was Tennessee state indoor champ,, he competed with his self bow in many shoots,, in the fiberglass class,,,, it was accurate,, and what Roger said

Selfbows can be very accurate with matched arrows ..a bit of tuning and a skilled archer...Many of the best scores as well as hunting exploits of years ago were made using selfbows...Jim

Awesome. I had a hickory self bow I got off the wall that you had to shot off your knuckle and I was shooting similar groups. It was just a tad to heavy for everyday shooting or I'd still have it.

There's a bit of truth being glossed over here. For those that dont know better- dont believe for a minute that its as easy to shoot good groups with a (non- centershot) selfbow as it is with a modern glass-lammed bow. They are much more sensetive to spine especially and also to good form than centershot bows. With a selfbow you cant get away with store-bought five pound variations in your set of arrows. They, and your form, and your loose have to be "spot-on" for good groups. Its easy to make a good arrow matched to your bow. Its another thing to make a set to those tolerances! Accuracy depends on all that, with very little leeway. But when its ALL right, its a very fine thing!! And quite an accomplishment!

Ok, back on track. Congrats on a well made bow and Great shooting, I hope you bag a monster with that bow. :)

I can shoot my self bow better out to 20 yards than most of my other bows. Past 20 yards my arrow really starts to drop and five yards really makes a difference.
