Hello, I have a question about Endless Loop strings. How many strands of BCY DynaFLIGHT 97 are needed for the End Loops. I am using BCY 3D End Loop serving thread. The bow is a new Hill style longbow 62# @ 29". The limb tips do have furniture. OhioChris

I made a 20 strand D-97 Endless Loop, the ends are served with 3D serving thread. So the end loops are 9 strand plus the 3d serving thickness. Is this safe to shoot on a modern longbow? What is the least amount of stands for the end loops. bow: 62# @ 29".

Another question: Is it okay to pad the loops on Endless Loop strings? OhioChris

I make my D97 endless strings with the same strand count as I do my Flemish ones ... 12 or 14 strands. I don't pad the loops on either. I'm shooting lighter bows than you are, however. I would think that 16 strands of D97 would do the minimal trick for 62#, but 20 strands is certainly a very adequate string.

I serve the endless loops with the same material I use for the center serving, which is usually Brownell #4 (.021).

It's certainly fine to pad the end loops, but I wouldn't think it's necessary using the strand count that you do on a bow designed for low-stretch, unless you decided to explore an ultra-skinny string with a very low strand count.

I use these strings on bows built with low-stretch in mind, and have had no problems to date with their performance.

But don't rely on my post as valid ... let the heavy bow folks confirm or contradict what I just wrote.

Chris: I think you are way over thinking the problem. A 12 strand of B50 would be more than enough, so 20 strands of D97 is an over kill. There is no need to pad the loops on an endless string. Bob

Thanks for the information.

I just made an endless loop of D-97 for my 1970 Carrolls. It's 12 strand with no padding in the loops. I served it with #4 nylon serving and that gives it plenty of cushion in the string notches. So basically my loops are 6 strands with #4 nylon wrapped over them. Works fine on that bow, which by the way has no tip overlays.

I make endless loop strings with B50 and D97 in 2 different strand counts, 14 and 16. As stated; no need to pad endless loops. Frank

I agree with Bob; there's no need to pad the end loops.

I just made up a 16 strand D-97 end loops served with D-3. Going to test it out.

Next, I'm going to make a 14 strand D-97 end loops served with #4 nylon.

Thanks again for the information. OhioChris

Chris -

At that weight, I use 16 strands of D97 or 14 strands of B-50. You can go with 18 of D97 / 16 of B-50, as well but not necessary. #4 nylon and no padding.

Viper out.
