I have my eye on a Browning Fury II. I have searched this site and the web and surprisingly I did not dig up too much info on this particular bow. Lots of info on the Wasp, Cobra, Backpacker, Explorer, Safari, etc.

If anyone could provide feedback on the Fury II it would be appreciated. How did it stack up compared to their other models? The one I have my eye on is 60" length and 50# draw weight.

Thanks.

Elkhuntr: I have a '70's Fury II in Brown Glass #50 @28. It's a 60" bow and has highly recurved tips. It shoots as well as or better than any other early Browning I have ever shot and I've shot almost all the other models from that era, as my entire family were Browning nuts. My first recurve was an Explorer II. They are extremely well made and designed. Here is a photo of 2 of my Brownings. The Fury is on the right.

thanks clothyard. does yours have bushings for a quiver or stabilizer? how about overlays?

The Fury came along in the early to mid 70's, and I believe actually replaced the Safari. I always thought it was to counter Bear's Kodiak Hunter as the design is similar, but that was just a guess. I had one briefly and thought it was a very good performer, on par with any other of like design.

Elkhuntr: My Fury is an early one with a solid walnut riser and has tip and handle overlays, a stabilizer bushing but no quiver bushings. Later models had 2 and I think 3 vertically laminated wood handles with some really nice color combos.

There may have been factory bushings for quivers too. I have seen one with 2 bushings on the back, near the fades, but these might be for 2 more stabilzers as that was really big in the '70's.

There are several old threads in the archives with photos. I have seen several Brownings with aftermarket bushings, usually on the side, for Kwicky type mounts or old Martin style.

Browning made great bows. Even the entry level Wasp is an excellent performer and mostly overlooked.

I also have one of the early Fury IIs, I think it is a 1972 model, solid walnut? riser, brown limbs, tip overlays and overlays on the back. My first impression was that it is very similar in looks and feel to the 70's era Bear Kodiak Hunter - Mr. Stout mentioned this earlier. Mine is 42 lbs., not my everyday shoter, but it would take a lot for me to consider parting with it. If I came across another in the 50-55 lbs range, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
