I went to Denton hill and was looking for a new bow to buy I'm only 20 years old and I've been shooting an old browning fury one for almost 3 years it's 45# and a 54 inch bow so I shot a lot of bows at the vendor tents and a regular 62 inch recurve felt really awkward to shoot being I was used to my 54 inch browning to make a long story short I'm a lefty and the selection of left handed bows there wasn't the greatest so after shooting numerous leftys I couldn't find one that was shorter that I liked so I Walked into big Jim's tent and fell in love I seen a 2013 bear super mag 48 inch bow at 50# after stringing it up and putting a few arrows through it I knew it was meant to be......I couldn't be happier I was wondering how many people own one or how many people like shorter bows like I do I would love to see some pics and feed back on this particular bow
I was also gonna mention the TBM article, it really sparked my interest in them. I also like short recurves and the supermag is on my list of wants. Im just curious how it would handle my 28.5" draw.
I shoot 27". Deadringer, 27.5 might be at the ragged edge. It would be neat if you could test drive one. A Kodiak Mag(52") might be a better a better choice. I do have a lot of love for the Super Mag and am always looking for more of them. So handy in brush, trees and blinds. Maybe a little less forgiving then longer recurves. Just requires good form and practice.
I have a 28" draw and mine draws nicely to that point. I'd wager it stacks just after 28" though. No finger pinch, great design.
The thing I like about the phenolic version of 1966-69 is that they're really heavy in the riser. I find them less twitchy than the Kodiak Mags of similar vintage.
Shot this Supermag on the left for a while, one of the silencers fell off on the way to snap the picture somehow, it's a 60# model. I have had several short bows. On the right is a 70's Pearson Equalizer 48". I also have an Ambusher that's 48", as well as about every 52" Pearson bow and had some K-mags and a Black Panther Hunter. IMO, there isn't any stacking on the supermag until you get close to 29". It is a good design, with double tapers like the K- mag. It does require you to be a better archer as far a form goes, but it will do anything you ask it as long as you stay consistent.
I like ours. I have one in 45lb but I'd like to get another in 5lbs just because that is my favourite draw weight to shoot. Here is a video I did with some "turkey hunting practice". In it I am shooting my 59 Kodiak for the first part and then I switch bows up and shoot the Super Mag 48. I have a 29 1/2 draw.
Here's a 52" K-mag @ 50# that I got back in the 70's. Didn't know how to shoot a bow back then. I do now some what. Anyway I decided in 2012 it was time to make meat with it.
