What's a 2005 bear super kodiak worth?

From: Jay B
Date: 27-Jul-14

Depends on condition, they're around $600 new, so in good condition I would guess $250-$300 tops.

From: Lucas
Date: 27-Jul-14

a little less than half of what a new one goes for, depending on condition.

From: Ghostinthemachine
Date: 27-Jul-14

Well, they were the ugly plywood version with the ginormous ugly tips.

No way it goes for over $150 on eBay. A buck and a quarter is realistic IMO.

X2. Ghostinthemachine....

If you guys can find me one at $125, please let me know

SB your plywood brainwashing is catching on ;)

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 27-Jul-14

No way it goes that cheap

From: hvac tech
Date: 27-Jul-14

there is one on ebay right now see what it goes for .

From: Phil Magistro
Date: 27-Jul-14

Checking the Completed on the big site it seems they go for $300-350. A couple of 2014s went for $400 and $529.

From: Ghostinthemachine
Date: 27-Jul-14

Phil, 2005 models?

No way.

From: hvac tech
Date: 27-Jul-14

look numbers do not lie the bow is worth more than 150.00 the new ones sell for 529.00 plus shipping .

From: hvac tech
Date: 27-Jul-14

phil you are spot on i watch the prices and the older ones are bringing what you said .oh yea now and then one goes a little lower but not to often .a lot depends on condition and bow weight .

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 27-Jul-14

Hats the 2 tone tan/Grey right? Not the action wood ones.

From: Ghostinthemachine
Date: 27-Jul-14

Looks like I have to revise my rambling. Lol

Looks like there's a 60 pounder from that era on eBay that's presently at $180 with some time left.

From: hvac tech
Date: 27-Jul-14

i am talking about the one made prior to the current one . it was tan and gray it had a little bigger tips and a slightly larger grip the limbs were a bit wider but it is the same super kodiak as my 1971 and 72 .i mean limb design not handle woods .

From: SB
Date: 27-Jul-14

I had one of those briefly once as part of a trade...tips nearly as wide as the rest of the limb...and a total dog at 60#. There's much better out there....keep shopping!

By 2005 super kodiak, I assume you mean one of these? If people are paying more than $150 for these I'm simply dumbfounded... very ugly bow.

From: papadeerhtr
Date: 28-Jul-14

Well I guess beauty in the eye of the beholder I think they are a nice lookin bow.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 28-Jul-14

me too

From: roger
Date: 28-Jul-14

A bow isn't worth some low ball arbitrary number because you have a similarly low opinion of its aesthetics. It's worth whatever the market dictates and you arrive a that number by taking an average. I sold that model not too long ago and it was in fantastic shape, for a number slightly north of $300.00

I like it. In fact I got a TD in the same look an color. Put it on the classified for $150. Then get swamped with I want it (me 1st). $250-300+ riser alone cost more than that...

I'll take as many as you can find for $125.00. I think they look good, and I know they shoot well since I have shot them.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 28-Jul-14

I have ~15 handles but my go to "A" is same as SWAG's picture.I like how it looks and its a shooter.

From: M60gunner
Date: 28-Jul-14

Yes, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. As for price about $200 with shipping as that is $ 25-30 for that. But you know the price is how bad someone wants it.

From: SB
Date: 28-Jul-14

The big pitch on the auction site is "new ones sell for xxxx dollars"! Well they aren't even remotely the same bow.... so that's a stupid comparison!

From: hvac tech
Date: 28-Jul-14

ok steve you have made it perfectly clear you do not like the bow shown above . i have now problem with that what i do not understand is why you keep beating a dead horse .i have watched the sale of these bows and the newer ones super k for quite a while what is your point the price is what ever the traffic will bear .now what is wrong with that ? that is why they make vanilla and chocolate what is it that you do not understand ? i have both models in fact one from 1972 and the one you despise and a new 2011 they all shoot close i have a cronograph and did my own unscientific check .they are all close real close .

From: roger
Date: 28-Jul-14

Steve, the exact model that you detest does sell in the $300 range whether you like it or not. The one I had we chrono'd at the shop and there isn't a nickel's worth of difference in speed amongst the Super K Clan. To say that one year model is significantly better than another simply isn't true. You don't like it then don't buy it, but telling others not to buy something because of your aversion to it is absurd..........Geez dude, calm down.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 28-Jul-14

I've never heard of any year SK described as a dog.PreFF maybe?

From: SB
Date: 28-Jul-14

The reason they sell for 300.00 is because of what I just stated . The seller mentions the price of what "new ones" sell for. Which is over twice that amount! Newbies don't know the difference ..... they just think they 're getting a great deal

From: hvac tech
Date: 28-Jul-14

steve ok then what should a newbie buy ? since you seem to have such a poor opinion of the super kodiak .i am with roger 100% .like roger said calm down . well i am not a newbie and i shoot the super kodiak .so what does that make me ? so what bow are you happy with ? you never mentioned what bow it is .

From: roger
Date: 28-Jul-14

No, the seller doesn't always mention the price of a new one, your making that up. That said, if a new recurve is $530 + tax and shipping, then obviously $300 is a fair price for used in good condition, especially so for a legendary design that has withstood the test of time......since like 1967.

From: hvac tech
Date: 28-Jul-14

i could not agree more . i am still wondering what bow you like steve let me know .there is a lot of very nice bows out there .

From: SB
Date: 28-Jul-14

All the super Kodiaks made in Grayling are excellent .... AND great looking bows . I own at least 1 of every year made in Grayling... have hunted and killed a lot of game with them. The quality AND the looks went downhill after the move to Florida and the sale to a big sporting conglomerate that could care less about anything other than thier bottom line. This is MY opinion. Everyone is entitled to one! You don 't agree... fine.... that's your prerogative. I have collected Bears since WAY before they were collectable... I can tell quality from crap!

From: roger
Date: 28-Jul-14

Of course you can. Everything made in Florida is "crap"......Got it.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 28-Jul-14

You'd shoot a plywood lefty I bet.:) :)

From: SB
Date: 28-Jul-14

Mike... no fair! I thought the topic was Super Kodiaks! Unless you REALLY have a lot of money.. you're kinda limited when it comes to the takedowns ! Some I don't care for.. Lately they are headed in the right direction! Until I had to switch to L/H I hunted mostly with my 1983 greenstripe. Yes it 's an early plywood model! But before they uglified them for awhile. I can 't even afford a riser in L/H. If cheap enough I may even stoop to a mag handle, just so I can hunt with it again. I am not that fond of the laminated risers regardless, but going back to the original post those plain bland SuperK 's and Kodiaks were were a travesty to the name. Who could possibly like the one that was MULTICOLORED plywood ? MY OPINION... end of story.

Well, the market will dictate what the '05's are worth, but as SK's go they are not "looker's". And, I'm being kind. The T/D is at least recognizable as a SK, but the other one...ugly ! Bear is doing a much better job these days, in both the T/D models and the rest of their trad line. Kudo's to them.

From: hvac tech
Date: 29-Jul-14

well steve i think that the most important thing here is that you have your opinion and i have mine . but seems like that 1983 bow you have you need to get rid of it ASAP it is a flordia bow so unload it now .i am looking at a 59 kodiak just cannot help it i like them .have a nice day .

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 29-Jul-14

I got that gold latch one you can buy.....

From: Hossfly
Date: 30-Jul-14

Ok so here's the deal I got this SK in a package deal at a steal! While I agree the grayling bows are indeed much finer in woods but hey what wasn't better in the 60's! Take cars for example. But after shooting this bow it is by no means a dog! Would I pay $550 for one? No! But if a man can come by one at a good price go for it! The string that it had on it was terrible so I put a 10 strand ff I made and it was great. I know the grayling guys think these bows are junk but I beg to differ!
