OK I seen the thread about dogs and to many items . let's here the good stuff. I didn't get to go . as much as I wanted to hear joel speak to. Man I wish I could of gone. So let's here what you all learned from Joel or g Fred . or just about what fun you had.

I didn't go either and want to hear about the good stuff.... except if there was a vendor there with a truckload of primo osage and yew staves... I don't want to know :^)

Hey Jeff I have a truck load of Osage.

I went. Joel was very informative, even to the point of revolutionary thinking for me. The weather was mild, very nice. The shoots were fun, and the camping was quiet and cool in the mornings. I had a blast.

I'm going next year - good LORD willing getting old enough that I gotta start doing stuff other than working, while still able

Want to do that Saw Mill one too (think that one would be more my style)

usually just hit the Baltimore shoot (really enjoyed it this year)

guess she will have to find something to do at home

The ones who do the most whining about such things would bitch about the kind of soup they got at a free meal. I don't put much credence in most of the naysayers. I've seen so much more positive than negative over the years that there is really no comparison. Some of the most beautiful country in the entire eastern US for sure. And the best thing...the camaraderie...is second to none.

I enjoyed Joel Turner, A VERY interesting fella. Gives ya a lot to think about. Had a great time shooting with Harry Carry, Banjo, Trad freak & Little Miss purple arrow shooter, even tho she picked on me the whole time. Saw old friends, made some new ones, and shot a bunch of arrows. Just like Denton Hill is supposed to be.

George Stout said it best in the other Denton thread:

"David, did you report the camping area selling to Mike? That's the only way to stop it. He will send them packing if he didn't approve it."

It was a great time! The courses were fun and never got backed up when I was on them! It's great seeing the amount of families, women, and children involved! The weather was perfect, and the view was breathtaking. No matter what you do, people complain and there's always room for improvement. But I can honestly say, I look forward to attending ETAR, and it's a great end to my summer! The vendors are always nice to go through. I wish they would start ordering more smalls for women though. By Friday morning there were only a few left! When you aren't in the market for a new bow, it's nice to look around and see pictures, pottery, jewelry, and more. This was my third year and I'm hoping next year will be the fourth! I have officially shot all the courses now! Also, the horseback show was cool too! Great time! :)

I just back home from Denton. I go to a lot of trad events and enjoy most. There are a lot of great ones out there but Denton is the best. Some guys have posted complaints because of the water all over the inside of the porta jons. The fact is that the people come around daily and spray them down with a hose and the water inside is that water, not urine. Considering the large number of people using them they are fine. The courses are set up very well and the scenery is outstanding. The ride on the chair lift is enjoyable and I look forward to it. The trading blanket is in a class by itself, outstanding fun. There is always someone who can find a reason to complain but as far as I am concerned Denton is the best. My complaint, it is too short. I say make it a 7-10 day event.

This was my 23rd year attending. I have complained about some of those things and other things in the past.

But you know what? I came to realize that the good far out weighted the few problems and I didn't want to miss it. So I always go. My kids have grown up there and we have made great memories there. This year only my youngest, my son Dan could go with me and what a year! Super weather, camping with the Bowbenders, catching up on stories with Longbowdave, having a crosscountry running fifteen year old to fetch arrows, shooting about every vendor's new bow, watching my son have a nice dicussion with the guys at the Bear booth and scoring a new Bear hat before the old man got one.

It is what you make it.

From: Red Beastmaster

ETAR is what you want to make of it.

It's big enough and varied enough to please anyone.

If you don't like camping, relaxing, laughing, visiting, shopping, eating, learning, and shooting 'til your fingers fall off, then it's not for you.

As usual, my wife and I were there a few hours Fri and Sat. We shot a lot of arrows at the lodge shooting gallery, cruised the vendors, talked a lot with friends, then took off down rt 6 to see the sights.

It was a very good weekend!

From: HARRY CARRY

To paraphrase that "Dos Equis" commercial: "I don't always shoot ALL Trad shoots, but when I do, I shoot ETAR. Focus wisely, My friends"...

At work, I am allowed a maximum of 3 days-off of vacation at a time. Denton Hill, through the recent encouragement and transportation by Banjo and Trad-Freak, can fit in to my schedule. It works....

It works because: the mountains of Pennsylvania are sooo beautiful; the hill climbing of ETAR is sooo serious (!); the commonalities of the folks attending far outweigh the differences; the opportunities to shoot as much as I want is unmatched; every person I talked with has the potential to become a life-long friend.

That's the kind of "works" that I like. And why I certainly want to return.

Make the event what you want it to be, and include a couple of friends in the attempt. Start with Denton Hill. And go from there!

(Thanks Banjo, Trad-Freak, Miss Purple, Longbowdave, and everyone else!!)

We shot on Thursday which was the most perfect day for 3D I've experienced anywhere. We also noticed more women and young children shooting that is great for the sport. Lots of smiling faces too! Great experience every year.

I tried to get into the Log Cabin Saturday PM but was turned away due to lack of reservation.

We always make a point of eating at Fezz's Diner and Sweden Valley Inn. It's a tradition that goes well with our annual pilgrimage to Denton.

We saw the new "Apes" movie in Wellsboro, played a round of mini-golf, and saw the world famous Ice Mine (man, was that thing cool).

I also found that my car has excellant brakes. I put them to the test when I almost hit a doe and a buzzard. You really gotta pay attention in Potter Co. :)

We had a great time! The weather was great, did ALOT of shooting and met some great people. Thanks to Longbowdave for shooting with us.(or should I say putting up with us.).Tradfreak taking one shot at the elk about 160 yds and not only just hitting it but getting an eight was pretty amazing.looking forward to next years adventure.

Had a Great time at Denton. This was my first time. Was there Thursday through Saturday. Spent a lot of time at Tom Phillips booth. Fezz's Diner I can agree was real good, but I wish they would Take Debit and Credit cards rather than eat up trade blanket money. Stayed in a camp about 32 miles away in Cross Fork. What a ride once you hit the dirt road! Beautiful!

Jon, you want "HARRY CARRY", the colorblind guy who hasn't a clue what the animals are, leading you over the hill and dale of north central Pennsylvania??!! Do you like obscure 1970s music, and bad Shakespeare in a bad Scotts accent? YOU GOT A DEAL!!!!!

Well, I've heard about enough of this!!!

My friend John "Sipsey River" has been after me to go to this event for years now, I PLAN ON GOING NEXT YEAR!!!

Sounds like too much fun to miss, hope I can get my wife to come as well.

Thank you for starting a positive thread.

I didn't see Joel's seminar, but did see him help my shooting buddy for about 10 minutes at the practice range with his shooting. He even took a little metal thingy off his own tab and put it on my buddys tab to help him out. He seems like a good guy.

I had a blast as usual, sold some stuff (within the rules), bought some stuff, shot a lot, ate a lot, and had some good conversations with people from many different areas. We brought up three rookies that seemed very impressed with it all. One went home with a new bow.

I can't wait until next year.

Monkeyball, Good pic of the Arrowhead making lesson. That is my partner in crime Rich Defalco sitting down in your pic so you at least know one person in it. We came in from Vermont, and stayed with some others in Cross Fork. Was a 32 mile drive and 12 of that was a beautiful dirt road every day. I have to thank Jed, and his good friend Paul for their hospitality. Paul is a riot!

I liked alot of the shot set ups this year. Targets set between trees, targets down in holes with only the kill abouve the mound in front of the hole, shooting through leaves, shooting over logs. Some of the target set ups someone put a lot of thought into, they made some of the coarses a real challenge more so this year. I enjoy these types of challenges, my arrows don't, but I do. DANNY

Cool pics.I see you got a pic of John as well.I'm the guy in the blue flannel.I met him on the trade blanket, and told him I wanted to learn knapping. He offered to bring his stuff the next day and setup shop.Great guy and a great knapper!

He ended up making 3 heads. He gave the first one to another guy that wanted to learn and two to me.I offered to pay him for them but he wouldn't take it.A lot of work to not accept money IMO.But that showed what kind of guy he is,just out to help other learn.

Well for those that complain about the time to shoot the targets, here is a flash for you.....there are usually over 4000 registered shooter there and 8 courses, so at times they are kinda busy. If you get your arse out of bed early, you can be nearly on your own. If not, there is the Cardiac Hill course that is usually sparsely populated. I love that course but you do have to climb a good ways to get to the top. If all you are doing is riding the ski lift, or shooting the 9 mile course, you will get into some lines now and then.

For the amount of people at the shoot, the courses really move along pretty well. And Sunday, you can breeze through most of them as most folks leave early Sunday to head home. What you will see is lots of families...lots of kids and lots of smiles on lots of faces. It is an awesome shoot and the cost is reasonable; you can shoot all weekend for half the price of a one day ticket at Disney World.

i Have never made it to ETAR, and have always wanted to. As far as negatives, some people go around in life looking for something to bitch about, my only advice is, ignore them, if it bothers them that much, they wont come back, and you are better off without them. Kudos to the folks that do the work, im sure a thanks is all they get, and they dont need to be brought down by some negative people that never pitch in.

WE camp on site, rise early and get to do every course at least twice. My youngest son has the camp record of doing every course three times. Evenings are spent shooting the aerials with flu flus and a cast of characters to rival any sit-com. We bring the dutch ovens, cast iron fry pans, and run a hard wood fire. ETAR is the best. of times with archery, family and friends. TLM

Now that a week has passed since we arrived at ETAR, I think that I can say that we enjoy them more with each one that we make. We are already missing this one. You can't get that kind of atmosphere at any other shoot.
