Just finished building a new bow and about to try Thunderbird for the first time. In the past have used wipe on but looking to up my game a bit. I'm thinking I should hang the bow vertically since Tbird has such a long drying time and to achieve an even finish. I am asking bowyers with experience for advice on the best way to hang the bow and how to blend finish at the string nock. Also what material (string or wire)to use to hang bow from as I am concerned that I may cement wire or string to string nock with the epoxy. Also any advice for special care or prep would be appreciated as well and pics if you have them . Thanks in advance!

I suspend from the ceiling with a piece of wire. String makes too much contact, IMO. The wire is bent in such a way that it has minimal contact with the bow at the string grooves. After a few spraying sessions, I spin the bow in the wire 'loop' so that it touches somewhere else. This way it leaves no marks in the finish needing sanded out. I'm careful not to get runs, so don't bother flipping the bow end for end.

I use a stiff wire to reduce pressure on the front and back of nocks. If its necessary you can always scuff the nock where you hung it and apply some touch up finish, then a little wet sanding and polishing will even it out fine. I get tack cloths for automotive painting, and use them right before spraying.

Go to droptine.com. Rich Lopez has his tutorials up right now and one is on sraying a refinished bow. He also has prep up right now. Don't wait or it will be off the front page. He is an excellent refinisher.

virtically with stiff wire seems to work good for me as it makes less contact with the limb then say fishing line or string would. As for blending around the string nock its best to spray a couple thin coats using a couple thin coats works better then one thick coat.Once your on your last coat you can spray a bit thicker and it should blend together nice bd
