Last week I got an order to make a new longbow for a customer. So far noting extraordinary except that this was a birthday present for 86 year young Cris from his lovely wife. Cris is shooting bow his whole live and he still regularly-wins prices. His specialty is shooting at 25m and he is also competing and wining “Clout” at 110 m distance. So far I know he could be the oldest competing archer in the Netherlands. Because of his age Cris can’t pull a strong bow, but he still wants to compete on 110m “Clout” distance so it was necessary to make a very efficient bow for him. Another problem was that he pulls only 25” long arrows. So I made for him a short English longbow 68” 28# 25”. The bow has a D tiller. Bow is also narrow, 23mm at the grip and 10mm at the small tips. For the inside I chose light Bamboo lamination and African Wenge wood. Backing is best Japanese bamboo and the belly is from Osage Orange. With 10x FastFlight string and good light arrows 110m was no more problem.

That first picture of Chris shows more determination than I have seen in a while. :o) And I noted the "short" English longbow of 68". My favorite length but one that not too many on here would consider "short". LOL Congratulations to Chris, his wife, and to you for making such a fine bow for him.

That is truly inspiring! Great to see. And an absolutely beatiful ELB by you sir! I regularly shoot with a Vermonter who is well into his 70s and often out shoots the best of us. There's a lot to learn from these guys!

Cris is my new idol. And I like the fact that he wears his cap backwards.

Thats neat. I did one two years ago for an 84 year old gentleman that needed a 2 piece for the bus and subway rides in new york. He couldn't drive anymore to the archery shoots.

That tassel is used to wipe down arrows, if case he misses. Keeps dirt off the shelf

Nice bow and an archer to emulate!
