Been through a lot of bows and still have a bunch but the bow that I've killed more deer with is my old 55 pound Kodiak. I bought the bow 25 years ago.I've been hunting with some other bows for a few years and yesterday pulled out my old friend. Put on a fast flight string and shot some carbons and looks like the old Kodiak is coming out of retirement.
Any of you fellas shooting and hunting with bows you've owned over 20 years?

Prior to switching to longbows about seven years ago, I hunted exclusively with Black Widow recurves, MA2s and MA3s for the preceding 21 years. In every regard Black Widow bows and the Black Widow Bow Company get my highest recommendation. In a literal sense, it would be difficult to improve upon the quality, durability and functionality of a Black Widow bow. In my experienced opinion.

If all you ever used was a Black Widow, then you certainly can't be objective about other bows. Yep...you found what you consider the best, but you haven't spent time with a lot of others. I have shot hundreds of bows...literally, and it would be tough to pick one that just kept calling my name. There are two that are close and that would be the Bear takedown and the Wing Thunderbird. Too many great bows out there that would make a good choice to go back to, and yes that includes the BW as it has a proven track record.

GDS,
Pardon me, but you can be an real Doink at times.
My IMPLIED point is simply that Black Widow makes one hell of a bow. As such, it would be "difficult" (I did not say impossible) to surpass a Widow in terms of quality, durability or functionality. Frankly, any bow that does so is also one hell of a bow.
I said I had HUNTED exclusively with BW recurves. I did not say I have only shot BW recurves.
Like anyone else who has been at this for a few decades, I too have taken full advantage of my home state's (Michigan) numerous annual traditional shows, expos and traditional gatherings to shoot and "spend time with" dozens of bows over the years. So spare me the lecture about my inability to be objective.
I respect the experience that you bring to this forum George. But understand that many others, including myself also speak from a lifetime of experience.

1958 Kodiak,Cedar arrow , Bear Razorhead . This fall I 'm hunting with my '56 Kodiak. Other than a couple customs made in the late 90's ....ALL of my bows are from 1944to 1976!

Little testy eh Labs. I said the BW was a great bow. Sounds to me like you really put most of your time with them. Nothing wrong with that. I can be a little biased as well. I'm not sure what a Doink is though.

will tell, I think that is cool but I would like to ask, is fast flight string ok on that bow? just curious. hate to hear of any damage to the tips. btw, I haven't been shooting trad but maybe 18 years so I don't have one bow that I have owned long enough to said I've been hunting with one bow that long.

Eddie, that's quite a debate on here but I've never had a problem with fast flight strings on my older bows. Black Widow bows are a nice bow but were just a average bow in the 60's. They sure have a cult like following now. To be honest I'm to cheap to buy a Widow or a lot of custom bows for the little difference I get shooting other bows. The old Kodiak mentioned will perform good enough and a custom bow wouldn't improve my shooting, been there done that.

My most used bow I still shoot and hunt with on occasion is a 1967 Grizzly that I bought new at age 16.I own a bunch of bows(some being the common customs), but that old Grizzly gives up little in good looks and shooting qualities. I expect that I could have decided to use that bow exclusively for my entire life and been content but............
