Pappy, can't wait...Twin Oaks is a little slice of heaven in my eyes...Cloverdale is a nice shoot but it's not Twin Oaks.

Trad Worlds at Twin Oaks is the best event in traditional archery, very glad to hear the news. Our crew will be there for sure. Thanks for hosting this again, Pappy!

I have a question. since I don't usually keep score at a 3D shoot, I was curious about the Hunter's Challenge of the IBO Trad world shoot. after looking at the website, I gather that the Hunter's Challenge is basically set up like a regular 3D shoot. Is there anything different about that course setup?

From: danceswithleaves
Date: 09-May-14

Eddie, no its the same set up as the IBO part of the shoot, with maybe a little something threw in for fun made out of steel.Listen no one will make you keep score there, they will give you cards turn them or can them that's up to you.Its a great time and you will enjoy your self, you don't have to be a great shot to have a great time. Trust me Pappy knows how the have a party !!! Thanks Pappy . Cal

From: Tal McNeill
Date: 09-May-14

Eddie, that's one of the cool things about this shoot. You'll see some of the most competitive shooters on the planet, as well as shooters who don't even bother to pick up a scorecard. And everybody's having a blast. I'm already counting the days!

Details, dates etc.

From: Pappy 1
Date: 12-May-14

Thanks guys, that always seems to be the misunderstanding, you can shoot for fun if you like, just like any other shoot, the hunter challenge is set the same as all of our shoots, the IBO is about the same but with no doubles/bonus or senary shots but still very nice set up.Come to compete or just come and shoot, really no diferent than any other.hookman not sure on the date but am pretty sure it will be a TwinOaks the 3rd weekend of July 2015,that has always been the date for the last 5 years anyway and fell sure that won't change.More info and update as soon as I have it. Folks, if you haven't been to an IBO Traditional World event and don't know quite what to expect, like I did, you do need to attend.

Firstly, there are some outstanding competitors from all around, even other country's. Don't let that intimidate you, they are as friendly a group of people you'll ever meet. I can say this from my own experiences.

I started my IBO Trad World visits when Twin Oaks first hosted it, been every year since, even Cloverdale last year, had a blast. Rhonda & I got to shoot with Mike & Debbie Rash w/ "Legends Bows". Where did I meet Mike, the first year Twin Oaks had this event.

Now let me say I was just going to shoot the Hunters Challenge but I though, While I was there, I'd try the IBO ranges. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised.

You will really have a great time folks.

Hope to see Ian from Australia again, but he said last year was a once in a life time trip. So Ian if you see this, Nancy and I say high!

From: THarris
Date: 12-May-14

I did, as I said before, I've met some great people at these events.

Mike & I not only became fast friends, he has generously donated a "Legends Bow" to me every year since to help raise money for the local Scout camp I use for my events.

The atmosphere for that shoot, at that location, probably can't be toppped anywhere. It includes everyone, period, and you can learn alot about your shooting as well. Good folks, top to bottom at Twin Oaks. Speck

Thanks guys, really looking forward to it.Yep lots of very good shooters, but that is the case at most top shoots so I see that as no reason to stay away,it just gives me more reason to go. Pappy

Has the date for this shoot been decided yet?

From: Pappy 1

3rd weekend of July 2015 that should be the 17/18/19 July 2015. We are really looking forward to doing it again. Pappy

From: Big Dog
Date: 19-Aug-14

Have to agree with some of the other sentiment that's already been posted. This last one was my wife and I's 3rd IBO Worlds.....total blast! We really like the state man/woman competition the IBO added as well. As far as Twin Oaks, we attended the IBO and the Classic there....it doesn't get any better than that for a venue. Regards.

From: Pappy 1
Date: 19-Aug-14

Thanks Big Dog,we love to hear that. Pappy

From: Pappy 1

Been talking to Levi Bryant and we are making some plans that I think will make this even better this year,we are making some changes that will make it a lot more kid and family friendly and a few changes [to be anounced] for the main courses. Should be some good changes especially for those that want to just come enjoy and shoot for the fun of shooting ,not worried about the competition part of the event. Pappy

From: Steve

I went from Georgia to California one summer when I was in my 20's. With cooking, shopping, and setting up camp, we averaged about 90 miles. And that was a pretty full day. But it's a great way to see some country, and lots of nice people offered help along the way (but I had a group of high school students). Good luck and enjoy your time in the saddle. If you're in Salt Lake let me know.

From: Pappy 1
Date: 26-Aug-14

Sorry Steve, not sure what you are talking about ??? I don't plan on going anywhere :) Pappy

From: Will tell
Date: 26-Aug-14

Going to try to make it next year, shot in the first one and enjoyed it a lot. Would like to meet Pappy and see some of his bows. Is it still one stake for all shooters or is there another stake for seniors, juniors and primitive??

From: Bazooka Joe Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 26-Aug-14

Where is Twin Oaks?

From: Clydebow
Date: 26-Aug-14

There's different stakes for different divisions. That's how the Trad World shoot has always been.

From: vabowman
Date: 26-Aug-14

Stakes for Different classes however I think it's only two stakes on the hunter challenge....kids,ladies,longbows,seniors all shoot from the white stake..the recurve and recurve unaided, modern longbow all shoot from the orange stake.

Twin Oaks is about 45 minutes north of Nashville Tennessee...a little slice of heaven right there...I truly believe that God was showing off when he made twin Oaks.

Bazooka, twin Oaks is near Clarksville TN, just up the road from Nashville. Pappy, so glad to have it return to you, we love your place, it is always our favorite place to shoot.

From: babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

Is Rick Welch going to be there?

From: Jimmy Blackmon
Date: 27-Aug-14

You'll have to ask Rick that question babysaph. He was there the last time it was at Twin Oaks.

This is a wonderful situation for me all the way around since I'm a member of Twin Oaks and on the board of directors for IBO. I'll give credit to Rod Jenkins. The first year of Trad Worlds Rod told Levy that the best place on the planet to host the Trad Worlds was Twin Oaks Bowhunters. That led to Levy approaching Pappy and we were fortunate to get three super years of Trad Worlds in at Twin Oaks. Now we return to Traditional Heaven once again.

I'll have to make sure that the Clarksville/Montgomery County deer population is reduced this season so that we don't have deer encroaching on the camping area. ;-)

From: Pappy 1
Date: 27-Aug-14

Thanks guys/gals,and yes Jimmy I will try and help you out with that as if you need any help. Yall spread the word for us,we want this to be the best ever and who knows babysaph Rick just might be there,LOL Julia hope your shoulder is doing good. Pappy

From: vabowman

Dewayne Martin

From: swampbowman

I Love Twin Oaks. Great terrain and people; just be sure and bring some DEET because the ticks will drive you nuts if you a Northerner who is not used to them.

From: Jimmy Blackmon
Date: 27-Aug-14

Those ticks are trained. Pappy wants you to come and have a good time but don't get too comfortable and try to stay. ;-)

Some years they are bad and some they aren't. We're supposed to have a hard winter this year so who knows, it might kill a lot of them off. Nevertheless, DEET is a good idea.

From: LH
Date: 28-Aug-14

I am going to try to make it. Will they have the heavy hunter class again?LH

From: Big Dog
Date: 28-Aug-14

LH, I don't speak for the IBO.....but I doubt it. There just didn't seem enough people signed up in the class 3 years ago to warrant it. I do hope that the lobbying for a hunter class is successful though....although I can't think of a sure fire way to come up with for specifics to classify it. All I know is that there is probably a good number of people like myself who do both with one bow (3d and hunt). Its always seemed to me to be a bit of an oxymoron to have the name be IBO (B stands for bowhunting) and to see tons of Target only setups out there. Not knockin those people, but it would be nice to have a hunting class at least. Regards.

From: Jimmy Blackmon
Date: 28-Aug-14

We will announce the changes/adjustments to classes (there are several so shooters can't say we didn't listen to you) in a month or so. Certainly, not everyone will be happy but we tried to make as many adjustments as we could with the best interest of the sport in mind. There will be no class that adheres to a weight standard, but we will have a hunting type class for you. Most States require 40# to hunt so it doesn't makes sense to align hunting with heavy. It will, however, be tailored for hunting bows so that any hunter who wants to participate can do so.

More to follow.

From: Big Dog
Date: 28-Aug-14

Jimmy, that's good news....I'll be on board! Regards.

From: Big Dog
Date: 28-Aug-14

From: vabowman
Date: 28-Aug-14

Yes, there will be a hunters type class at Twin Oaks....so all you guys that said if they had this type of class I'd come...mows your chance....I believe it will be a big class if not the biggest...

Dewayne Martin

From: Pappy 1

I agree Dewayne, looking forward to the details,Like Jimmy said it probably won't make everyone happy but this whole IBO Traditional only world thing is a work in progress and has been trying to improve since the start,we are getting there and I think it will get better as we get it fine tuned through the years. Pappy

From: AdAstra
Date: 29-Aug-14

I, for one, really do appreciate your goal of advising competitors of next year's Trad World changes in classes and equipment requirements as early as possible this fall. It allows the opportunity to acquire and finalize our choices and changes during the slower winter months and be all ready to go for the 2015 shooting season. Pappy and Jimmy, thanks for all you efforts!

Mark

From: Pappy 1
Date: 29-Aug-14

Thanks Mark,we are trying to make this appealing to everyone,we hear so much about IBO ,only for the serious competitor and we want to keep that for those that want that level of competition but also want to make it fun for those that could care less about scores and just love to shoot. That is what we are trying to do, I think we can do it with yalls help,come/try it and let us know what we need to do to make it better for all Traditional shooters and with in reason we will try and make it happen.Thanks. Pappy

From: Tal McNeill
Date: 29-Aug-14

Pappy, you guys achieved that goal years ago. People just haven't figured it out yet. Keep doing what you're doing!

From: swampbowman
Date: 29-Aug-14

Thanks for all the hard work Pappy it shows when one visits a club like you fellas have. The class changes will be interesting to see again. The endless suggestions you IBO reps (Jimmy) have to sort through gotta get wearisome .Whenever a new class is started I would suggest that a couple of the better archers (Jimmy ,Dewayne ,Demmer etc) practice with some beat up 1960s Grizzly with scratches and sight holes hand drilled in it and beat everyone by 50 or 100 points to show just how little the " target bow " matters. Maybe then we can all just shoot together. Just another suggestion...

I'll be there , just got back from the classic Sun , my buddy backed out of going at the last min., reluctantly wife went with me she had a blast said it wasn't anything like she thought it would be even wants to shoot more so she can compete, the twin oaks crew made that happen

I don't see how it could be any better than the Classic was!

From: Pappy 1
Date: 07-May-15

Thanks Danny ,I am partial to the TN.Class also because it's my baby but the IBO traditional world is pretty darn good also, we try and keep the same atmosphere ,as close as possible to the Classic. It is a little more structured but still a great event and well worth the effort to attend if you can. Pappy

From: Arvin
Date: 07-May-15

Yes Pappy a bit of a different crowd at the trad world but a good one. I have found that you put a bunch of trad archers together and you have some good folks. The IBO is a bit more competitive but when done in fun great. There is a shiny bugle and some bragging rights for those who win but most all of them are good wholesome loving people at that. If you never seen the best of the best in a shoot down well you have missed something pretty special. I missed a last shot Robbin Hood by a lady last year to take the shoot down in hunters challenge. Would have loved to witness that. That's what happens when you can't make all of them. I like the IBO format and its crowd. I will say I can see why the tn. Classic is Pappys favorite . It's about building bows as much or more than a archery shoot. To a bunch of old bowyers like myself it's a hoot getting together swapping lies and bow building info. I love both IBO and the classic. From: Pappy 1

Yep we have the target order made,70 new Rinehart's, mostly large stuff] this is going to be nice. 3- 20 IBO target course for that part of the event. 10 for the shoot downs and a 25 Targets for Hunter Challenge with existing targets we have on hand made to our liking and should be a very cool range. I'm thinking about going to the IBO trad world this summer. My usual summer shoot is Cloverdale. I like Cloverdale but have a conflict with the date this summer. I typically shoot for fun but keep score sometimes.

A couple of questions:

Is there a shoot all weekend price?

For the Vintage Hunter class, do we weigh our arrows? Seems like I read that they had to weigh 450 gr.

From: Pappy 1
Date: 13-May-15

Yes we have a shoot all you want price on the Hunter's Challenge range 25.00 ,score first round and then shoot all you like. Not on the IBO side, it is 1 round per course,40 targets or 60 depending on if you get in the Sunday shoot down. Not sure on arrow weight, I will forward this question or you might look on the IBO web site under Traditional world. Pappy

how many targets are it the Hunter's Challenge?

From: Pappy 1
Date: 13-May-15

25 /set up in traditional TwinOaks style. 2/ 20 target courses for IBO qualifying and 1 20 target for the Sunday shoot down. Lots come just for the Hunter Challenge and that is fine but I suggest trying them both if you have the time, The IBO qualifying courses will be set for fun shooting also if we have anything to do with it and we do. Pappy

From: Danel

Sounds like fun. I'm going to put it on the calendar.

I've shot The Cloverdale Nationals shoot many times, are the distances of the IBO courses similar?

From: Danel
Date: 13-May-15

Found the answer to my question about distances. Looks like an approximate 25 to 30 yard max for the longbow and recurve class according to the IBO rules.

From: Danel
Date: 13-May-15

Found my answers.

Now I need to put together some arrows. Nice to have a reason to build more arrows.

7. Vintage Hunter (VH) a. Recurve or longbow wood or wood with laminates. Must be shot off the shelf: Shelf must be the manufactures shelf with no build up and can be covered with any material no thicker than 1/8 of an inch. Side plate must be manufactured with no build out other than strike plate material no thicker than 1/8 inch. Vintage Hunter archers will shoot from the white stake. b. Arrows- arrows will be aluminum or wood with feather fletch with minimum 12 inch of fletching. Glue on or screw in tip only. Arrow must weigh 10 grains per lb of draw weight at 28 in. no lighter than 450 grains.

Twin Oaks is a mecca to traditional archery. If you have never been to this site you MUST go check it out. Pappy and his guys are super nice people and it is a wonderful archery site. Its very consistent in the way it features "traditional archery". A few years back I and several friends flew from California to visit the IBO at Twin Oaks. We had a terrific time and I am looking forward to returning , I am glad to see the IBO is going back to Twin Oaks. Its one of those archery sites that traditional archers need to see and shoot. Its a terrific place , you won't be disappointed !

I won't be shooting in two IBO classes but suppose someone comes in 13th and there are three other people that finished ahead of you in that class . They decide to shoot another class . I guess some archers have the talent to shoot any bow great . That would not be me.lol. Arvin

a. Bow – no man made material can be used on bow except string material and glue. No performance enhancing material may back the bow (ie. Another wood, bamboo, rawhide or sinew). Only decorative materials such as snake skins may be used. b. Arrow – must be wood, bamboo or cane. A Primitive bow shot with fingers directly contacting the bowstring using a glove, finger tab, or bare fingers, Archers may use up to two (2) nock locating devices, but they must use the same nocking point and anchor point for each shot and the index finger must contact the string in the same place for each shot. The index finger must touch the nock of the arrow. Face and/or string walking are not permitted. No sighting device of any kind may be used. There shall be no markings on the bow or bowstring (intentional or accidental) that could be construed as sighting marks. No type of draw check or clicker may be used. Arrows shall be made of wood, bamboo or cane and shall be identical in length, weight, and color (allowances shall be made for normal wear). Arrows shall be shot off the hand or shelf of the riser. No soft materials that will assist or affect the paradox of the arrow may be used to build up the shelf or strike plate of the riser. Archers may use a hard material on the shelf or on the side of the riser under a hair or leather strip that does not exceed 1/8” thickness. The shelf may not be built up in a manner that will give the archer an advantage in terms of feather or vane clearance. The intent is that the shelf meets the side of the riser (strike plate) so the built-up shelf may not be a pyramid that provides clearance and separation from the bow riser. PRM archers will shoot from the White stake. A Primitive Bow shot in PRM shall conform to the following specifications: 1. The bowstring, when the bow is strung, may only contact the nocks of the bow. For the selfbow guys. Date: 05-Jul-15

Poured concrete tester day , so the bridge is done , all target ranges set, just need some tweaking and stakes set, looking good but could be better if the rain would stop . Got soaked at least 3 times yesterday. Pappy

Do we have a pea gravel finish on that concrete ? We don't want to replace it. Lol Arvin

I hope to later, some way down 220 pictures I have lost them, Miss Joanie is trying to recover them for me , hope she can . I am so bummed about it but just behind at work and got in a hurry coupled with the fact that I ant good with computers so maybe she can fix my stupid mistake as she seems to have to do pretty often. Also scores should be on the I O web sight and TwinOaks site pretty soon. Pappy
