I just acquired an Abbott Longbow and I love it. I want to order a new sting for it. What string should I order.

I shot a 8 strand D-10 with wool puffs on mine.It shot very well.I have used SBD bowstrings and Oliver Stacy's and Lefties R Us.All make a great string.Rick Barbee gets lots of praise for his strings on this website.I am sure they are great.

Did they come with fast flight?

whether you shoot right or left has nothing to do with it. Need to know how long the bow is and what poundage. Depending on the age of the bow they are probably not FF compatible. Bob

The bow is 66" 50@28.

I know that Steve's recent bows had fastflight strings. The one in the photo has tips that look just like all of his recent ones so I think it will be fine with FF.

That does look like a ff string, usually you need a string 4" shorter than the bow. Just count the strands and order a 62" string with how ever many strands that one has. Bob

Sometimes it's 3 inches shorter than the bow; that used to be a difference between recurves & longbows. Also, B-50 Dacron stretches more, so a string made from that material would be ordered 1/2 - 1 inch shorter than a non-stretch string. ALSO your preferred- or at least the bow's preferred- brace height canl affect string length.

If you have any string material around the house that you could rig up just for measuring purposes that can help a lot. Like an old tillering string, or a string from a longer bow, tie with a timber hitch at one end until you get the right brace height, then measure the string. If you were to go with one of Rick Barbee's outstanding strings he gives info on "How to measure a bowstring" on his website.

Steve was a very good friend of mine. He used fastflight on all of his bows (D97, I believe) He made these for each bow and they shot wonderfully.... Shoot Straight, rare breed

I did not realize he had passed. I have a 66in yew longbow he made and it is a excellent shooting bow.

I am currently shooting a 20 year old 66" Abbott longbow with D- 97 string. Steve told me, at Denton hill last year, he built them to take fast flight string. My string is 63".

I have found an Abbott just like this one above for $300 he may take $280. We went to look at it last night. It is R/H 54# and mint it looks stunning. It looked so good I wondered if it actually shot well until I did some research and found this thread for example. My father's birthday is mid Sept. so I think I should go scoop it up for him.

Yes he does but we didn't bother to string it while we were there. Trying to reach the seller hoping to go back tonight. He had about 15 recurves, 15 longbows, untold number of compounds and crossbows. The Super Kodiak was not clean enough, Two nice Groves one TD had an awful grip. There was a nice Bob Lee longbow $250 with stag tips that I thought felt the best in the hand. The Abbott was so unique in contrast to the rest.

We went back yesterday and he tried it out. The bow with no silencers produces only a whisper from the string. The draw was super smooth. I can't speak for it's speed however it surely will get the job done in that department. I bought it and pops is very proud to give such a fine bow a great home.
