I'm new at making wood arrows,and just wonder if i could use a stain and varnish in one.This would stain and seal the shafts in one step,would this work ok? Thanks.

Yes it will work just fine. I have make a toner by mixing a dye to varnish and it works well.
Keep in mind that it will cloud the wood grain some. The color is in the varnish and will not actually stain the wood.
