Bummer man! She's was just getting in her prime!!! I'd still be bawling! I've had a few dogs that are gone that if I think about very long I'll tear up like a little girl and I'm not embarrassed to admit that!

Wow this is a terrible tuff one to have to endure but you will. Very sad look for the good in all this theres many things we don't see and understand that happens for reasons unbeknown to us. The time you sent and now its gone? But is it? Its very sad but dog isn't gone and never will be she lives in your heart even though its broken right now and hurting.
Lord watch over this and bring peace to this situation on all fronts and forgiveness and allow this what happened teach this roofer about life. Compassion to the dogs family and wisdom to handle this properly taking away the deep pain from this loss that happened so suddenly.
Amen

ottertails, lets get this straight. You don't secure your dog. It runs out into traffic (which I assume is illegal in all states), the dog is knocked down by a car, again after it is either not leashed, or controlled, recieves a bruise, and you insinuate you would have done something physical to the driver for hitting your dog who should'nt have been in the street in the first place. Wow, peace be with you.

I have one that looks just like her (mine is also brown or red) & she has been one of the best dogs I have ever had. I have had 3 in te past 25 years and they were all female Dobermans. My first 2 were Black. Every one I have had has been a great friend and had a great personality. Sorry for your loss

Coincidentally, I just had a conversation with a friend about the difficulty of having a dog die. Very sad to remember canine pals that brought such joy to our lives. My present furry friend, a German Shepherd, also travels happily everywhere with me. Much sympathy on your loss of such a companion.

First off, very sorry for your loss.
My neighbor's dog was just hit and killed by the car directly in front of my wife as she was driving home the other night. My wife and I are both "dog people" and seeing the dog get hit and suffer until it expired greatly upset my wife (and that's an understatement if there ever was one). When she came into our kitchen my wife was still crying and cursing our neighbor.
On multiple occasions last summer and fall I arrived late to work because I would see this same dog running loose, up and down our road and would take the time to coax it to my side. I would then put it in my own dog's kennel until my neighbor got home from work- or the bar. When I would confront my neighbor about letting his dog roam loose, he would say he didn't have time to "catch" his dog because it would have caused him to be late to work (of course, better that I'm late for work). Besides, he would say, his dog had enough sense to stay away from the road.
Long story made short, I tried to save this dog from its owner and its inevitable fate. I failed.
I live in the country as well and have owned hunting dogs my entire adult life. As dog owners we have a responsibility to keep our animals confined, restrained or at a minimum, at least away from the road.
There's a lesson here for all of us.
Again, sorry for your loss.

Very sorry to hear about this incident, Steve. Dog lovers understand what you're going through. It takes awhile to get through the grieving process of losing such a companion and friend...human or not.
Philosophizing about the shortness of dog's lives, losing one seems even harder when they are taken in their prime. I sure miss mine.

George is not "right". The guy who was driving while on his cell phone certainly was not acting (driving) responsibly. But BOTTOM LINE, if the dog had not been on the road, it would not have been killed. That's a cold, hard fact.

Yep..Sad that your dog was killed in an untimely fashion..
Guess you'll have to get another pup..:)..:) Growing up..near 60 years ago..I saw more than one of our family farm dogs get killed on the highway..
A bitch in heat a mile away and away they went..:)
Never fun..
These days..gotta keep your pets under control so they cannot get focused on something interesting that involves a road and moving machinery..
Only takes a few seconds for a dog to see or smell something and away they go bounding out into traffic..Jim

I watch mine like a hawk, but still they can get in trouble so quickly, Had mine chasing a turkey through the woods and some how got impaled on a sharp stick, (must of fliped up when her front foot landed on it and went through her hind leg and stomach) Had emergency surgery and doing great now

Dogs can become part of the family.Certainly we're part of their family. Some people who have killed dogs have been killed by the "owners".Not right but it illustrates how much we care for them.Think of the people who have spent thousands on medical bills for their animals.(Of course some spend the same money on sticks with strings.)Just shows how much we can care......I don't think that people should be murdered for accidents but dangerous negligence does need to be discouraged.

Lost my best buddy in December due to age and the deterioration it brings to dogs and people alike. Never had a Rottie before--this girl showed up at our place after somebody stopped and dumped her out on a cold wet November night several years ago when she was only six months old. Dobies and Rotties, as well as pits and other dogs that have a "bad" reputation can be so sweet and loyal if they have sensible owners. I really feel your loss with you.
