Been working on a recurve build for a couple months now. Looking to get it 47# @ 28". Well it took a while and a lot of saturdays to get to finally mount the limbs and get it all together, but i finally did this weekend. Well as you could guess i was pretty excited to string it up and start tillering, but when i strung it it was at approx 80lbs. I sanded in the limbs to the edge of the template i use to get the rough shape and it was at 70lbs on the bow scale.

I dont know why it is so heavy, and i did all my calculations the same way i have done it in the past. I am using two laminations of lace wood and then fiberglass on both sides. Do i keep thinning the limbs? and if i am going to thin the belly of each limb how much glass can you pull off?

I get it that something went wrong, i am looking for any advice on how to fix it. Appreciate it Gents!

You can thin the limbs, belly and back as much as needed as long as you don't get into the veneers. Just sand evenly. Though it is not recommended, you can bring the limb width in also. Just go a little at a time and check weight and tiller often. It can be done. Good luck with it.

i know that thinner limbs equal faster limbs (especially at the tips). Is there a "too thin" limb width. I assume it would mess with limb twist? I cant find one anywhere i look
