A friend asked me recently what I do just before walking on stage. It isn't glamorous. I usually say a prayer, and then put on my tab that Stacy Groscup made me. That's it... Then I head out. Usually they play "My bow and arrow" by Ted Nugent as I come out. I love that song.
I don't have any other routine or secrets. I simply say a prayer and walk out. I've always said I don't blame God when I miss but I sure give him credit when my show goes well.
Ted Nugent told me he has a routine and prayer he does when he bowhunts. I guess this is common...
What about you folks? What do you do before a hunt or tournament?

I try to say a prayer for safety. Sometimes I do ask that god give me an opportunity to be a witness to someone on the course or at camp but I am ashamed to say I don't do that enough.

Putting that tab on always reminds me of Stacy. I wear a Masonic ring that was a gift from Dick Mauch, his father's ring. Those too are both quiet reminders of good men. Dick is still alive and well but I don't get to see him often. Stacy passed in September 2005. Doesn't seem like nine years has been that long. My dad builds all my rests so I also think about Pop. But that prayer is the most important part of what I do....

I've seen your shooting demonstration one time & talked with you briefly. My opinion isn't worth much but you represent what a lot more of us people should stand for. Thanks for the praise you give & keep up the great work. I can't wait to see your son shoot with you if that is still going to happen. Or maybe it already has happened.

Hi Frank. I just stretch a little before practicing in the woods behind my house. Being alone with the trees, I think about a passage from 2 Samuel, Chapter 22. King David says something like, "He gives me the speed of a deer, He guides me to the top of mountains, He strengthens my body, so that I can pull a bow made of bronze." Not a direct quote but you get the point.

As Im out there I say thanks for all that I am blessed with. Like noted above the "Church of the woods" is a great place.
No judgement or confusion, just pure peace.

I don't have any rituals and tend not to be very spirtitual or overly sentimental when hunting, fishing or 3-D shooting. I do comment to whomever I'm with about the beautiful day or morning it turned out to be.

Juneau It's all good, the jingle was funny. I don't take myself that seriously but that is a way cool shadow photo huh?!? Ha
Dick Mauch and I kid around all the time. Laughter is a good thing.
After 29 years on stage my skin is pretty thick... I was traveling all day and just got in my room. Doing media at 5:30 am and then shows all weekend ....
I love what I do. And besides, it beats a real job...

Gray- earlier this year I did 3 day shows in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
Up at 5 am this morning to talk archery, what God has done for me and promote a show here in West Texas on a morning news show. I love promoting the message and archery in the media! It goes with the job..

By the way, I gave George Strait a Hoyt bow in 1999 and I believe he still uses Hoyt and also gave Toby Kieth a bow.
Fred Bear told me that anytime I had an opportunity to get a celebrity into archery that it helped promote the sport.
Governors, actors, singers... Folks like that help.

Great shows today in West Texas! Did two media interviews and had a nice crowd at tonight's show. Talked about Mathew 17:20 and then had some great Texas BBQ after the show.
I have sold out the summer and will try and post a list of the FREE Cabelas appearances once it gets closer to June. States will include PA, Maine, WV, Michigan, Conneticut and Ohio plus some other appearances. Very happy to stay this busy after 29 years!
Thank you

Well, Mother Maybell Carter, who most consider the mother of country music, was an Addington. Unfortunately I acquired zero musical ability and, well, George Strait has had more number one singles than any act in any genre of music. Simply stated, he is the man. I was very honored to give him a Hoyt Bow in the 1990's..
The are many country singers that have gotten into archery.
We have five horses and two mini horses at our place, but I think I'll leave the singing to Mr. Strait.
Although I am sure there's much more money in music, I have had a great job for the past 29 years, had a lot of fun, met wonderful folks from all walks of life, and hopefully helped promote this feat sport, encouraged families to spend more time outdoors together and spread the word about God giving us all talent and an ability. He has certainly blessed my life and I will always publicly give Him the credit...

Chris I just hung up with Dick. He was telling me about catching some fish at Plum Creek yesterday and cooking it for his supper last night... He sure gets around for a man his age!
I will have to get that magazine. I truly love Dick Mauch. Such a kind soul. Pretty good sense of humor too. The world needs more good men like him.
Thanks, I will be back at the Maine Cabelas this summer! Wouldn't miss those lobster rolls!
