I ordered my new Border Covert Hunter last November when Sid was finishing up the R&D... It arrived yesterday and man what a beauty she is! 53lbs at 28" she can flat out launch an arrow... I strung her up and shot a few arrows but ran out of time so today I'll get to know her real good. Sorry no pics but I've been trying to post this thread including pics but it won't work.

Congratulations Bryce. Hope you can get your pics working here. The one you texted me of the bow disassembled was a beauty. Can't get over the deflex in that riser.

I applaud the mods here for letting this post live! Free speech....what a concept!!!! There is another site that will remain nameless where it would have already been waterboarded and violently executed by the censorship Nazis.

Here are some photos of the Covert I received last week. This is a very very fast, quiet and easy to like bow.

Got my tandem chrono's set up today, this 53lb at 28" is 56lb at my draw length. Shooting a 540gr arrow, 204 fps. My hunting weight arrow is 585gr and measures 193fps. This is a medium grip bow. It fits my hand better than any bow to date. The short sight window is not a factor, I have been shooting Borders for 3 years and don't have any trouble seeing my target in my sight picture. I use a bear weather rest to get great flight. I shoot black eagle 250 shafts with 225gr field tips. The bow comes with sleeves for each limb and the riser. Also, a bow stringer is included. I ordered knurled limb bolts so I don't have to have an Allan wrench to assemble/disassemble it. I ordered quiver inserts cuz I like my arrows in a bow quiver. This bow is 56" braced, but has an AMO of 62". It is very maneuverable for blind and tree stand hunting. I note it is the smoothest border bow I've shot. This is astounding since I thought they couldn't get any smoother! There is a pronounced feeling of let off at full draw which makes holding full draw easier than the usual recurve that stacks. The extreme limb tip curve is more pronounced on these hex 7 limbs then on the hex 6 BB2's. Wish I could post a side by side pic for comparison. This is my new go to bow... I will order a second one for my back up and sell my 4 Borders that are the previous models. I know they are full up with orders but this bow is worth the wait. The $1,800 is not over priced, it is the best bolt down on the market.

The hex 7's won't fit the previous risers so not only will hex 6's be on the market, but so will the compatable risers they fit. Border lovers are growing in numbers, for sure!

Moose, what is your draw length? I think a 62" bow is only suppose to go to 30" draw. With that bow only gaining 1# or less per inch you are going to have a hard time getting it to 56# without stressing the limbs.

I hold at 29.5"; I couldn't say what a 62" bow is supposed to draw to. I know my Easton hand held bow scale is consistent and showed the exact same reading bow trials I used testing it though. What a great bow to shoot, the let off sensation is remarkable.

Hahhhh! OLDOGRIB- you have that correct- got banned from that site about 4 years ago for simply wanting to discuss border bows there. Stopped going there and have enjoyed every minute of this site since.
But back to the topic of this thread- Great looking bow Bryce.
From reading some of the various reports on this new Border offering, it looks like the bar has been reset to a level that will be very difficult for many of the competing bowyers to match. Very few of the existing community manage to tweak the improvements out of their designs that Border manage, time and again.

I must admit, I'm biased, LOL! Seriously though, I have owned 74 bows, not a single one will touch the cast of this Border Covert Hunter. I set out to find the flattest shooting bow I could find cuz I want to shoot sheep, and realize long distance shots are very much a probability. Not an option to shoot a light arrow when you are hunting bigger game so the challenge is, what bow design will launch a heavy arrow (mass) the fastest ( velocity) .... And I'm not interested in Kinetic energy ( 1/2 mass x velocity). I'm concerned with Penetration and that comes from maximum momentum. Dave Sigurslid wrote an excellent article summarizing Ashby's findings that appeared in the April/May 2007 issue of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine, page 50. www.tradgang.com/ashby The key is achieving the threshold of momentum that is adaquate to penetrate sufficiently and do so, at a longer shot distances. Who wants to have their hunt come down to a once in a lifetime shot, only to walk off the mountain with no animal recovered or no shot taken cuz you were unprepared to confidently take the shot? Not me!

I know your not interested in KE but I did the math and your heavier arrow actually has less KE which for most bows is not the case....Interesting.

KE drops as the arrow weight increases and speed decreases. Ashby's formula for momentum shows the arrow weight and corresponding speed all have the same momentum in the chart below but you can see, the KE is dropping.
Grain speed KE 450 231 53.33 500 208 48.06 550 189 43.64 600 173 39.88 650 160 36.99 700 149 34.52 750 139 32.18 800 130 30.03

I am a proponent of momentum as well. But as a comparison to say a hill bow at 55 pounds and using a 500 grain will shoot around 170 fps but if you increase arrow weight to 600 grains speed will only drop about 10 fps to around 160 fps. In this example you will increase both momentum and KE. A win/win deal for a longbow.
The best part though is that with the covert hunter you get the best of both worlds shooting a heavier arrow faster than a longbow thanks to it's increased stored energy. Because it stores more energy than a longbow a longbow can not "catch up" in momentum no matter how heavy an arrow is used. A win/win/win deal.
good post

You gotta hand it to the brothers of the longbow... It takes more skill to hunt with one. I tried longbows and figured I better stick to recurves!

I will say this about the Border bows, they have a very neat "Turkish" limb design. However, I believe the concept is more like the asiatic "compound" bows. The Asians shot composite bows that had what looks to me like a horn piece on the ends of the limbs that turned over sort of like a compound bow cam. The Borders extreme hook design seems similar in concept. What's not to like about Borders? Well, they are expensive. They also are top-heavy in appearance. That's just my opinion.

They are incredible bows. Looks like we will see much more of the Border limbs with Bob Morrison's decision to use Borders limbs on his bows.
