Folks, the 4th "ONE SHOT~ONE KILL" will again be held at the 2014, 10th anniversary of the Howard Hill Southeastern Classic.

As most of you know, this competition is for those that shoot a Howard Hill or a Howard Hill style bow, with wooden arrows only. I have a jig your bow will have to fit in to qualify and I'll also post those specs later.

There will be a stake mark for those that will shoot this competition and it costs $10.00 if you want to compete.

Only one round can be shot for this and I have to ask those that shoot it, PLEASE DON'T TAKE PRACTICE SHOTS, if you're shooting a regular round of the HH Classic before you shoot this competition.

The winner will again be awarded a hand made uniquely beautiful plaque made by Gerald Tomasovski.

The wood in these plaques have estimated to be over 100 years old and there are no two alike.

This year, in addition to the plaque, the winner will also receive one of the "Commemorative Buckles".

Here are some photos of last year's plaque. I'll post some of this year's plaque when I get the plates in place, you'll see that both woods are different and still beautiful.

These plaques are approximately 16 inches wide and 24 inches tall.

Mr. Tomasovski also tells me that each plaque he makes has nearly 11 man hours to complete.

Todd, I'll tell you what I've told numerous people over the years, "if you'll come once, you'll be back".

Many, many times, this has held true.

You need to make this event before I stop doing it, I'm gettin' older every day :-)

Hey, even if ya have to borrow a bow and arrows, you'll want to compete in this part of the competition at the HH Classic.

As a matter of fact, I've got a Howard Hill bow, 50# at 28", all you need is the arrows.

"one shot, one kill" ...... I'm thinkin' this suggests that you get one shot and if you don't hit the "kill" zone, youre' out of it on that target -- If you miss the kill zone, you get zero points--- which is the way it should be....... also if you hit a ridiculous area like the face, foot, GUT,knee, hock, etc., you should be penalized and have points subtracted from your score. I'm thinkin' that any old-school, hard-core Howard Hill-type person would be agreeable to these rules....... yes...?......no?

From: THarris
Date: 19-May-14

Steve, you really are HARD CORE :-)

In a perfect world Steve, I can see that scoring system.

When I started this extra competition as part of the Howard Hill Classic with those who had Howard Hill or Howard Hill style bows, I really thought it would take off.

I had so many request the first few years for a Hill bow division, so I started the "ONE SHOT~ONE KILL", mainly because of Mr Hill's nickname "Ol' One Shot" given to him by Fred Bear.

What I do Steve is place a separate stake at each of my 25 targets. This stake is clearly marked for this competition. Each of these stakes are placed not only further but much more challenging for the competitors.

The scoring system is the same, 10~8~5 on the targets, but trust me when I say that using a straight limb longbow with wooden arrows, this is challenging enough.

Now, with that said, I felt I would have a minimum of 50 participants. I never had over 38 and the last two years, not even 30. Even with that, everyone that has shot it, had a blast with the set-up.

You ought to come and try it out, if you meet the qualifications, I believe you'll appreciate the way I have this set up.

Thanks, Terry. ...... just givin' you a hard time and reminding folks about always striving to humanely and effectively "kill" the game -- ideally, quick and clean --- and know it does not always work that way. Youre' doin' a great thing -- keep up the good work. oso

Terry --- p.s. ....... where and when is this ? ...probably can't make it, but would like to try. Have you ever made the Texas Longbow Championship ? ..... another good deal. oso

Date: 19-May-14

Steve, I'd like to one day, that's actually where I got the specs for the bow for the One Shot competition.

This event is coming up June 6th, 7th & 8th, 2014 and is held at Tannehill Historical State Park in McCalla, AL.

Got several folks from Texas comin', you'd certainly be welcome.

If you'll check out my other threads, you'll get a lot more info.
