Dose anyone shoot a saxon recurve or longbow? Don't see or hear of them much but everyone I have ever shot I really liked. Are they still being made?

Not being made any longer. I had one of there 50s style recurves some years back and it was a good bow.

Still being made but in very limited quantities. I got one that was made last April. Randy is a heck of a bowyer.

I have a Saxon Selkirkā€¦.it's awesome! I also have a 50's style Widow (PSR X) and the Saxon is WAY better of a bow! They are very quick. I won't be getting rid of it like most bows I buy!

I have a Saxon recurve I would like to know more about. It is a Plainsman, marked 55# @ 28". The current Saxon Archery company says it is not one of theirs. A helpful gent on another site said it was likely make in Kenosha, WI .

Here is what I know about it: My Dad bought it at a garage sale years before he died, and he passed in 1998. It had a delaminated tip but a bowyer friend fixed and refinished it. In doing so all the original printing was removed and replaced in ink. The leather Saxon coin is set into the riser. The printing "Plainsman" is still visible but the name of the bows maker was scuffed off as I shot and hunted with it. There are numbers on it that appear to be "10-36-361" or 360(?).

It is my first trad bow and I used it on my first trad harvest (8 pt. Buck, Nov. 2011). It is retired from hunting now but I shoot it every so often. I will try to post pics, but I am newer to pic posting than trad archery...

As stated, I would love to learn more about the bow and maker. Thank you for checking it out. John

That's a great find. you have an original Saxon, not a Randy Diehl bow from Kenosha, WI.Looks to be mid sixties.I have not found much on this company but I have 2 of their bows.I believe they were in business from 1952 to 1971.There are not many out there.Good luck with it.

I had a Saxon recurve didn't know I was suppose to like it and sold it. was 62" long and 45#

I've had two Saxon American longbows and still have a Saxon Hill style longbow. They are very well made bows and not lacking for speed.

I had two saxon longbows. American and the mongoose. The american did not shoot as smooth as the mongoose but was a very good bow. I used it as a back up bow. The mongoose shot like it had eyes. It was the smoothest longbow I have ever shot. I also bought my boy a saxon wolverine. It was a bit costly but it was a great bow for a kid to start with as it shot well with enough umph to give a kid encouragement.

Saxons are Excellent bows and I love the name. I have an American longbow, 64", 50lb at 28 and a twin American recurve, 62", also 50 at 28. Both came used from Leatherwallers. I agree with BigDog - not blistering fast but smooth and excellent craftsmanship. Also purchased a new Saxon Shrike, 56", 45at28. Has the handle forward grip much like a Shrew. They all look like they have Elm limbs and same riser material but I'm not sure what it is. If you are interested in getting one, be watchful on Leatherwall, they show up from time to time.

Anyone know what finish was used on the Saxons? I had one years ago and it had the nicest smooth finish of any bow I have ever seen.

In 2006 I had Randy make me 2 Saxon Mongoose longbows, a 64" and a 66". Riser in cocobolo, belly bamboo, and back in red oak. I have several quality long bows and the Saxons are my favorite.

I had Randy build me and my brother and my dad Saxon Hawk recurves and longbows back in the year 2001. I have owned and loved mine ever since. I have picked up a few more since then. I have a nice 2-piece Saxon American as well. Love them.

Randy passed away some time ago. He made great bows.

I have an American recurve, 52@28 , 62 inches. Red elm under clear glass. It is nice looking and a nice shooting bow. Very smooth at my 29 inch draw, and a joy to carry through the woods.
