I just saw this on Bear's Facebook page. Apparently they have brought back the factory camo with the new Kodiak Magnums. Cool. It would be a neat bow to have for turkeys. This picture was taken at Kalamazoo.

I think it is good the way Bear seems to be embracing it's past like this rather than trying to move past it. It seems like they are going in both directions which will be a good move for them.

There was a niche back then, and I suspect there is a niche now for those. Kudos to Bear for keeping their eyes and ears open.

I reckon there's hunters who buy camoed toilet paper..:( Camoed undergarents for the ladies?..:)
There's dozens of methods for 'camoing up' the prettiest bows so they don't shine or glare that preservs the fine woods and workmanship on a bow..
Paint on any bow just suckz in my opinion...ESP a classic repro or a vintage classic..
Ya paint stuff to hide less than stellar woods or workmanship..
I hope those new K Mags are not in that class..Jim

I usually put a strip of camo tape on my bows when I go out for a hunt. It comes off easy and actually helps protect the bow.

Luckily, dire wolf, not everyone is like you or me so Bear does their best to tend to a large market of varied interest. The camo bows sold in the past, and will probably have a limited market now. The only ones I saw of the old Bear bows that were not great bows under the paint were the 1961 Grizzly...and they were all camo that year. You find just about any other Bear, there is a pretty nice bow under the paint.
To a lot of folks, a bow is a weapon of utility, not art...so they are not so particular about looks. Reckon their opinion is as valid as ours, eh. Maybe we don't think it's cool, but then we don't have to buy them. I met a man who made some of the most gorgeous bows I ever saw. His personal bow was sprayed flat black all over. That was Jerry Pierce...his own bow was a tool to him.

As a note of different subject yet appropriate:
Historically, women have put on makeup( CAMO) to disguise-conceal their true beauty...or cover some serious flaws for the unwary and easily enticed..
Whatever camo one uses should be to tone things down..NOT cover things up..Jim

I enjoy looking at beautiful wood in a bow as much as anyone else, and you don't see many painted bows these days. Back in the late '60's and early 70's all of us in my area painted our bows. As George pointed out, "to some folks a bow is a weapon of utility, not art". We didn't get too hung up on looks, but only used them as a tool to blend in with the woods.
I find it rather refreshing that Bear has brought this image back.

Leanman, yes they did have satin 59's. That could be one right behind the camo K-mag that was where they were hanging. Looked good at five feet but I was looking closely a other bows.

They showed two different bows to me when i went to the factory to pick up a big batch of bows. One was a TD riser with a TM camo dip finnish and the other was the old rattle can finish with a green base and then leaves used as templates to give it a natural camo pattern. Neil asked me what I thought and If I thought I could sell them. I told him that I felt the old natural "home made" type camo would probably be more popular but that they would both appeal to somebody. I have a grizzly with the old natural camo and it is marke EXP #0001. I think I'll keep it :) BigJIm

I like Bear bows but to me that camo is ugly! I have an idea for Bear and have made this suggestion to the Bear reps, so far it has not come to pass. I want to see a new machined aluminum riser, 2 sizes, A and B,. I would like to see the risers use the same latches as the old and present tds. But, also have them made so the latches can be removed and a fitting is added so the riser will accept ILF limbs. I think they would have a very special riser if they did it. Come on Bear, let's see some innovative thinking!

I think these drab do it your self camo patterns are cool and kinda roadster. There different. I still like my fancy zebra woods and so on... but to me some of these paint jobs really fit the bow and give it a different feel or element.

Jeffer,
I handled that bow at Kzoo and talked with them about it. It is a painted bow, not dipped. I loved the way the camo looked and felt. I have a long draw as well, so I asked if they were going to camo any other bows. The response was "probably a few here or there". FWIW.

Jack Howard was known to make a pretty decent looking bow. But Jack was known for painting his own personal bows too, and not too fancy either. Also for taping his spare string to each bow in a big glob of tape. Bows weren't sacred to us back then.

Camo bows are great looking. However, an all natural bow with a matt finish, would be my first choice. They look good and don't glare in the sunlight. JMO, like all of us.
