"I'm a doctor, Jim. Not a bowyer."
Without the laminated stripe I'd say a Jim Darling/Howard Hill bamboo recurve. Might be a fancier version. Possibly a Stotler.

Historical note: When I was but a mere lad, I frequented Tom Jennings' "S&J Archery" shop in North Hollywood-- which was located close to both NBC, Universal and Warner Bros. Studios. Tom had an autographed photo of Bill Shatner holding a new "compound bow" which Tom had given him on the set of "Star Trek". Evidentally, Shatner was a customer of Jennings. He also shot an episode of ABC's "American Sportsman" while hunting a grizzly in Alaska (using a Bear Super Kodiak, I might add). Also, many years later, I met Shatner on the Paramount Studios lot while he was making one of the "Star Trek" feature films. I had attended/graduated USC with his daughter... Anyone have a photo of a Smithwyck Citation recurve? Tom Jennings made them. He was out in California, so the bow could well be one of his. Here's what Jennings said about the potential of the compound bow when he compared it to his Citation:
"I don't know if it was my proudest, but the most memorable was when I tested the compound bow the first time. I knew the world of archery was in for a big change. It was 20 fps faster than my own Citation recurve bow which was one of the best performers in the industry. The compound was 15% faster.a big gain. And I instantly saw many ways to improve that performance. The first Allen Compound bow I tested was a developmental product and almost every facet had room for improvement. That was truly a special moment for me. I became so overwhelmed with its potential."

When Tom was pushing his compound in the 1970's at Forksville, Pa., he had a 55 pound bow shooting 1916 target arrows from it. Of course it was fast with that setup. At our archery shop in the mid 1970's, we chronographed several compounds, including the Jennings. With arrows of 9'ish grains per pound, they averaged about 180 feet per second.
His Citation was a fast bow. I had a couple of them back in the 1980's in my shop. But all that is relative as well since we really didn't do anything scientific...just interesting.
Here's a link to Tom's "How to make a bow."

Somewhere I have a photo of Bill Shatner holding/pulling a Shakespeare bow. I'll have to dig to find it. Could easily be he had companies just sending him bows to get the advertising from a Hollywood star. It happened a lot back then....before Hollywood became a bunch of politically correct wussies.

I was conversing to John Kleman about Fred Bear at Johns grandsons wedding. John shot tournaments for Bear archery at one time. He didn't like the mag risers and left. lol
Anyhow the exact moment he met Fred was when Fred and Shatner were reviewing Shatners shooting of a bear, and Shatner was pitching fits over him not killing the bear but wounding it.
If I read Johns comments to me correctly, Fred was disappointed in Shatners actions after the initial shot.
I'll try to get John to respond here. He is quite interesting to talk.

all kidding aside, He is pretty passionate about archery here is an excerpt from a 2102 interview: Now I’ve been riding a long time—and on some horses at some times, I’m in that zone. That Zen zone of unity. That you can get as an actor, that I’ve gotten as an archer. You know that book, Zen in the Art of Archery? I’ve read it many times. Your pulling point, your anchor point, is usually right at your lip. So you know exactly where it is. Your arm is just crooked a little, and the bow rests very loosely in your hand. Like this, okay? So there’s the bow, and there’s the arrow, and there’s the target. And Zen in the Art of Archery explains what an archer really knows: The bow unites Heaven – the air the sky – and the Earth. And the arrow unites you and the target. And if you’re really into the zone, you will loose that arrow at the most appropriate time. Like a marksman, or a sniper, will take a deep breath. Why? Not only for steadiness, but because he is pouring his spirit, he is breathing out into the shot, through the sight into the target. He can see the bullet go. Now in free archery, the arrow starts to drop about 15 feet after it leaves the bow. In fact it rises a little, maybe 6 inches, and then begins to descend. So if I’m going to try to hit that light up there, I’ve got to be 8 inches above that light, ok? but I’ve got to feel it, I’ve got to know the arc. Riding a horse is like that. You’re so into the horse. The horse is talking to you. And you’re talking to the horse, with your legs, your body. And the horse is saying “I don’t want to go there.” And you’re saying, “Oh yes you are.” “No, I really don’t want to go.” “Come on, stop being like that!” That’s the conversation.
