What riser and limb combination do you shoot?

Today I shot a 2012 A handle with the new red tip #3,55#. That combo makes a 60" bow, sweet shooter. I have a few others as well, all have limb pairs from their respective era.

HillbillyKing in your last picture. the A mag looks like it has a brass insert just above the grip. i have an a mag that has that same brass insert there. was that done from the factory or has it been put in by someone.if its factory could you give me a little history as to what year and the reason and how many were done this way. i was guessing that someone had put that in mine. thanks-----------joey

I have a question for you guys. With a 27" draw length what would be the better riser/limb combo? I like bows with a smooth draw and weight around 50@28?

hey bicster you may want to buy a mag handle they are a bit cheaper in both A & B and then give those a try with the different limbs and see what you think.I shoot #2's on my B riser and the 62" seems to shoot well for me..However I do like a 60" bow a bit better bd

There is a lot to be said for the mag handles. They are dead in the hand (no handshock), indestructible, and have three interchangeable grips styles. They are easily refinished and can be found in very good condition for $250-$325.

Well ther are two for sale on the classifieds, one left hand recurve,wish I could afford and the other is a long bow also wish I could afford. Some beautiful bows you guys have, I am jealous, but one day I'll get mine.

Some real nice looking bows. I don't have any Bear takedowns, but you guys are wearing me down to the point where I'm getting close to buying one. I want to see the new 2014 offering before I buy. Maybe they will have them in Kalamazoo. I like the thought of being able to swap limbs and risers so readily.

I agree bowdoc. I am having one heck of a time shooting my bubinga B handle consistently. Tried it with new limbs and with older red tips. I can shoot it great for a shot or two but if I make the littlest mistake in form or release I throw an arrow several inches away for the other.i have other bows I am more consistent with but, for some unexplainable reason, I keep coming back to shooting the takedown.

Nice bows! I'm pretty much set for now, but when I have the disposable income, I'm going to pick up a magnesium A riser with #1 limbs and the #2 grip. I've always wanted one, ever since I saw C.R. Learn with one that had a red riser on the cover of the Feb of 75' issue of Bow & Arrow magazine.

My two C-Risers, top is a Type-2 w/#2 RER limbs 50# @ 30", second is a Type-1 w/original #3 37# dimpled white limbs. I also have the original 45# red tip limbs for the Type-2.

Shot my mag without the grip on last night (having it dipped) - perfect fit! Absolutely no hand shock whatsoever - love that bow!

It should be in that range, may be up to 98. On Rich's site there's a bow listed - SN 165 - that's from 1996. I had SN 7XX and it was from 2001.

I'm currently giving a facelift to a 1970 A riser.

It was refinished a few years ago with the grip professionally checkered (which was done well, but I don't really care for it).

I thought I could make it look a little nicer than it's current state, so I decided to fix it up and make some fresh limbs for it while I was at it.

It should be a real sweetheart when I get done with her.

I'll post pics of the bow when I'm done tinkering on it. ;^)

I shoot these two most every day. The two-tone A has #2, 48# white tip (older) limbs. At 58" long it's a sweet shooting bow.

My favorite is my green stripe with either new 50# limbs or old red tip 48# limbs.

laying that green stripe on concrete I'm sure it was put down gently but ouch

I am very careful with it just like I am with my cameras but it's not just a show piece. It is in remarkably good shape for being over 30 years old.

This little gem showed up yesterday. Has a very nice grip and will be in the hunting rotation this fall.

I received this one last week. It is a lefty special made many years ago by a Bear bowyer. It bolivian rosewood B handle. It is 1 of 2. It had not been shot. I'm shooting it!

I was told the its mate was owned by Mr. Reader at one time.

I recently got me a Bear Magnesium A riser with #1 limbs. I want to refinish the riser as it is in bad shape.

This one has the small bear emblems on the back of the limb latches and the sight opening in the shelf area. Very cool bow!

Does anyone know where I can get a different grip for it? This one has the 3 grip and it's way too much for my hand.

I'm in love with my bow! 47@28 A with number 1 limbs it shoots so smooth so well at my 29.5 draw its hard to want anything else. I've played around and traded and bought so many bows over the years but the bear takedown is one bow that I can't believe i waited so long to try

My second Bear Hunter TD I bought used, it had a few scratches in the finish which is pretty normal for a bow approx 22 years old. I thought about sanding the bow down and re- finishing it but then decided to get the whole bow dipped in a pine tree camo. RA Hoffer did the camo dipping. I really like the way it turned out. :)

Funny how that bow has had it's name changed over the years when in fact the only major change other than colors of wood has been building it to be ff compatible. It started out as the "Fred Bear Takedown hunting bow", then went to just "The Fred Bear Takedown", then in later years was the "Kodiak takedown", then later yet "The Takedown".
