Of the available connection systems for a two piece bow, which system is the best?
Is there a connection that does not compromise the integrity and prefomance of the bow?

Locket socket is definatley not a bow bolt. Yes it is what Black Widow calls there system. Very similar to several bowyers out there including me.
I will put my fiberglass sleave system up against any "other two piece" system out there as far as strength, looks, customizeable grip, and trouble fee performance. It is everything that a one piece is, yet more portable. It is probably stronger than most three piece.
When properly done, there is no way to discern that it is a two piece without prying up the grip wrap or unstringing the bow.
Understand that I didn't design this system so if I didn't feel it was the best available, I would use a different one. I have nearly 500+ of these take down systems out there in bows up to 100lbs without a known issue.

I have the locket-socket system on my Black Widow PLX,I too like a one piece bow myself. With this system you never know it is a T/D,feels like it add alittle more mass weight.Nice T/D system in my opinion,it's a solid system.

I made 2 selfbows with the metal sleeve. If i get a lam bow 2 pc it will definitely be the locket socket especially after hearing Big Jim has done 500 of these! Wow!

I like the bow bolt system. If the bowyers does it right it can't be beat. But I also like the Black Widow system.

The lockit sockit system is excellent. Big Jim has a great series of You tube videos where he shows how he makes his magic. I have a new Hill Country harvest master that Roman added the system too after I requested it, and now he is offering it on his bows because he likes the system so well. He watched Big Jims videos to learn how to do it!

Tracker, you have a point. If the bowyer does it right, it is not a bad system. However, it has it's limitations in that risers must have a significant amount of glass or phenolic in the riser for it to be safe and stable and there are limits to the draw weight on a bow bolt bow. There is no more to break on the fiberglass cargon sleave system then there is on the metal sleave. In fact, the metal sleave system leaves less room to work with than what the glass system does not to mention, much easier to have a shapely grip on the glass socket.

i test drove a bow a few years ago with the bow bolt. it was a neat system. you would have to be careful to not damage the threads of the male part when the bow is broken down. no big deal, but just something to know.
at the time, the bowyer said a solid piece of cocobola or bocote was just fine. i think the draw weight limit was about 55-60 pounds. now, this bowyer only offers the bow bolt with an all-phenolic riser regardless of draw weight.
i think the locket socket or sleeve are the two best imo.
i often think of getting a two piece bow, but never seem to be able to convince myself. i traveled with one piece bows (reurves and longbows), and there really is never a problem when the bow is in a proper case. the volume it takes up is the same, whether it is one piece or broken down to two. i took a snow machine one year about 10 miles on a spring bear hunt. i had a one piece recurve on this trip and had no problems. maybe some day i will change my mind or see a benefit to a two piece.
if a take down is needed or preferred for traveling, it seems a 3 piece is the way to go. then you can also have spare limbs in addition to the compact size. just my $.02.

I hate doing locket sockets but do them knowing that it is the only system that I really trust to be solid . I really like the fact that you cannot tell that a bow is a takedown either in looks or feel with a properly made locket socket. its pretty much fool proof. On the other hand I have seen broken bow bolts, loose sleeves which finally broke ect. Never happen with a locket socket. Slip that puppy together string the bow and go hunting. you will never know its a takedown bow until you want to take it apart and then talk about simple. Just pop it apart and put her in the case. I do add a heavy phenolic I beam in the riser when I do a locket socket. That eliminates any real possibility of wood breaking. God bless you all, Steve

Elkhuntr, every time I fly, I put two bows in my suitcase. No extra baggage fees. In fact, they take up less room than my arrows. Flew to Saskatoon several years back (before I did the two piece) and my bows were the only thing not to make it. They did show up 2 days later though and most all was well.
