Im thinkin about makeing a warf bow could u guys post up sum of urs so i can get ideas

From: Warf

Heck, I will tell you how to do it if you have a milling machine! First be aware that the shavings off these old Risers are Thermite! The magnesium content will light up and burn very rapidly, setting your belt sanders on fire and burn your equipment up. Scenario. You have a belt sander and you just used it on one of these old compound risers. You do not clean up the dust and hit the belt with a piece of mild steel which throws sparks, which sets the dust off, which burns up your sander before you can get it put out. That is if you are lucky enough to put it out before you burn your shop down. NO COMMERCIAL MACHINIST in his right mind will cut a dovetail in one of these Risers for this the fear of burning the table out of a 10 thousand dollar milling machine! Be very careful with these old Risers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not a true ILF warf, it is a Bear Black Bear bolt on limb conversion. Easy to do, and bulletproof.

An old PSE to ILF

From: Warf
Date: 14-Mar-11

Warfing is a "skill" if done correctly. I will be gald to help anyone as much as possible! I also do this for people part time. I have warfed 100 plus Risers. Bob Gordon is the "Man" and my mentor. He lost vision in one of his eyes and retired but, he can still outshoot most with a rifle or pistol! I wrote an article about him and his Boxer "Warf" in the last Australian Stikbow magazine. I also shared the beginnings of my "One string" adventures in an article about a 1995 solo Elk hunt in Colorado. A lot has changed since then! lol I no longer have much hair and I'm a little older but my love for Bowhunting with a "One string" has only grown! I may be a little different than many who take up the Recurve or Long bow for more of a challenge over the Compound Bow. I did it and continue to hunt with them because I believe they are "superior" hunting tool to any other system! I think they are better suited to the variables in the field, along with many other attributes they have. I have a Column in the mentioned magazine called "Modern Trad" and hope many of you will visit the Magazines online availability/ I own, shoot and hunt with Long bows and several different one strings. I love them all, from the self Bows to the Modern metal handled recurves!

With a Bear Black Bear compound riser, can you convert it to accept recurve and long bow limbs or is it one or the other.

From: Nalajr
Date: 14-Mar-11

How do you shorten a ProLine Riser down to 19 inches? I have a ProLine that I like a lot and have had it for a few years now. I am looking to go to something shorter or lighter in mass weight than the ProLine.

I think the ProLine measures just short of 21 inches or so.

Please explain.

Nalajr

From: Warf
Date: 14-Mar-11

Hey Whittler, Yes! You can install either on a BB riser.

Nalajr. That would require a build along which I will never do but, I can tell you that I use a sawsall and a milling machine. The Proline in it's original length is 21. I move the limb bolts in a half inch on each end on a regular conversion which makes them a 20 inch. I drill and install heli" coils when I move the limb bolts inward on any riser! I do not like to go with just aluminum threads but they will work if you have at least an inch of threads to support the load. As I said earlier, It is a SKILL learned and best achieved with a machinists background. I used to pistolsmith for Wilson Combat and was a milling machine just about every day for 5 years. Hope I helped!

Brady, This bow would not be a good candidate for Warfing due the the layed back limb pads because the brace height would be too long. Also, there is too much reflex, which make a recurve twitchy and unforgiving, not to mention it will make the limbs stack.

Below is a list of recommended Warf Risers.

bear black bear (by far most popular) the rest are in no particular order...

game getter (old compound)

Hoyt Rambo

Hoyt spectra

ram hunter (Hoyt Easton)

Hoyt Pro Vantage

Jennings Black Lightning,

Proline Typhoon,

Hoyt Game getter II (old compound)

Hoyt td3

And some possible:

Hoyt raider

What loose arrow said. You'd have to modify the limb pockets a LOT. Not a good choice for a first project.

This really makes me miss 'Ol Sam. Quite a character and great guy too. He converted a few risers for me and his work is impeccable. Oh yeah, and Brady_H, what the other guys said: that bow would not be a candidate, sorry.
