Mine is in Ritchie county Wv I wish I had pictures of but its just an old house my Grandfather was born in sets on 99.8 acres and load with deer and turkey , My dad started the hunting camp there on Five Forks in 1977 we didnt have eletric but had a buch of fun guys to hunt with I grew up listen to hunting tails of the past and being taught by several old hunters Most are gone now but we still hunt out of that camp memories are everything with a camp no matter whether its a tent or the finest cabin ,, Nice places Gents

From: Jim Terrio

For those posting poctures of your cabins.......I am green with envy.

I had a camp up on Sebec Lake in Dover-Foxcroft ME back in the '80's with 40 acres.....I sold it to finance my wifes college education.

I've not looked back on that decision.....until now....just a tiny bit..... Oh how I wish I had a place like that again. But, my wife did really really well with the investment, and that has made me happy. Jim. ps: I would do it again for her.

KPC- Thanks, "camp" is fast approaching 100 years old in 2014. It was actually built as a camp with formed concrete walls with field stones thrown into the mix. All of this was done, of course, by horse and wagon and the sweat of four friends and some helpers. I am a fourth generation owner. My dad died at the age of 45, so ownership went to me from my grandfather at a fairly young age of 40 at the time. Lots of good memories and hunting stories. Miss my "pap" badly and always think of him when I am there. Beav

Here's my cabin in the Rockies, late fall before the snow, elk and deer close by. Built it myself in 1985. No electricity or phones, no problem! I do have a generator though now. As I am retired now my wife and I will and have been spending more time there. I usually pack in for elk but as I age I plan do do more hunts out of the cabin. At 64 almost 65, and getting past middle aged (my wife and I kid about that all the time) Plan to live to 120 or so. You should see it when the aspens turn and then when the snow piles hi! Ahhh! Lifes good. Shot a trophy mulies last week with the longbow about 1/2 mile from the cabin.

From: Motega

Uggggh YES we have... I had a case of .223, lots of clothing, ammo, etc. stolen... other fellas had stuff stolen AND the lousy thieves stole all our copper pipe... ruined our spring and into the summer for what was probably $50 worth of copper. Coincidentally(?) the neighbors had loggers all over the property cutting their trees.

I shudder to think what might have happened had I come upon some guys ripping pipe from the cabin- I never climb the mountain without my AR-15 and a 40 round RELIABLE clip locked and loaded (thanks to Sterling of England for making the only 40 rounder that works). What do you say to a guy a mile back in the woods as you are obviously robbing his hunting cabin? PS - the cops are an hour away- there is NO police force only state police and a sheriff 3 towns over which I have no idea how to reach... 911 I guess?

From: spraypilot
Date: 15-Sep-10

No problems here in Mississippi with break-ins. They know we are gun totin' rednecks! Plus mines way off the road behind a locked gate. Here's a pic of the inside of the 1st cabin on the post. I have running water and electricity and propane heat. I had to run a trencher and lay water line over 2 miles. Then put the elec in the trench. it was worth the effort I guess.

From: spraypilot
Date: 15-Sep-10

Traxx, Yes I believe I did have pics of my cabin in an aritcle I did. I see I mentioned no plumbing twice, I meant one of them to say no phone. Apparently no plumbing is more important to me than no phone, cheeez. What the hell's wrong with me. I'll be heading up to the cabin tonight so I can hunt the opener tomorrow morning. Never see any good bucks this early in the season but it's a ritual kind of thing. Can't shoot any does in our area this year and wouldn't you know I seem to have lots of them around. Hi Bill, Lots of good memories out of my cabin, it's about 15 years old now. If you and Gail would like to come up sometime to hunt for a weekend let me know. Nov. is pretty full but late Oct. might work. Have almost 500 acres of private land to hunt plus tons of public. I have a couple of WTA guys up this weekend to fill their bear tag, I have literally tons of bears. Generally get as many bear pics on the cameras as deer. Those bears love the food plots as much as the deer.

A hunting cabin is a great addition to any hunt, a special place to share with special friends and family. Packing in to far off places is also neat however the cabin is special in that when the weather is foul and cold it doesn't hamper the overal enjoyment as much. Eddie C,

It's called an Aliner. It's an amazing little camping/hunting base camp. It can be set up or taken down in LESS THAN one minute flat- even without detatching it from the tow vehicle. It's the perfect hunting/camping/travelling rigg.

It's not the permanent cabin we wish to eventually have, but then we can have a different view out the front door every season. It's small and comfy and just the ticket for public land hunting.

Eddie C,

I believe Aliners are actually manufactured in PA. Perhaps that is why they are so well made. It's that good old fashioned PA work ethic!

Good luck.

Live in the Log One year around in SW Washington, Scamp Sept. for "early season" on the East side of the state and motorhome for the cold winter period Mid Nov thru Mid Dec usually chasing elk in the snow in the coast range.. Quad for retrieving [only].. mule deer on private property.. Old Bronco has 5600 ft of cable and a winch and has been worth it 's wt. in gold getting elk up out of deep canyons

This is a view of the "mobile cabin" in use in Eastern Wash on a hunt we had in 08...rough, and pretty open country with deep canyons for bedding and spot and stalk and winter wheat fields above but nice deer.. hunting a friends ranch.

great stuff guys....unfortunately everyone I know of who owns a hunting cabin has had it broken into and robbed numberous times. There was one place I had permission to hunt that had the windows all shot out and there were bullet holes in the walls and door. My brother and i considered getting some property and one of the pre-fabricated cabins that you can assemble yourself but then though t would not be worth it once the locals found the place and destroyed it.

From: 36bound

Yet thousands, if not tens of thousands (or millions?) of people have cabins that they enjoy and look forward to spending time at. A classic example of a glass "half empty" perspective.

KPC, you speak the truth. Our cabin was burned to the ground late last summer by kids who were using it as a party place. We assumed they got too high and let things get out of hand.

Posted a pic of the cabin above... here is a picture taken this spring from the back door... Our resident black-tail neighbors... Momma has placed these guys "out of bounds"... I saw "daddy" this summer a very respectable 4x4

From: 36bound

It is a shame, a crying shame- and bad guys SUCK!

...But my glass half full perspective is, (and I'm hazarding a big guess here) that the joy of owning a cabin far outweighs any infrequent grief associated with owning a cabin.

Perhaps several trail cameras in discrete places around the perimeter of the structure are in order? And a sign by the cabin that says, "If you are reading this sign you have already been photographed multiple times on your way in by night-time capable trail cameras. Tresspassing is a misdomeaner. Breaking and entering is a felony. Leaving and not returning is also a ONE TIME courtesy that I am extending to you now. Choose wisely because I WILL PROSECUTE to the full extent of the law."

I have a friend who once had a breaking and entering problem at his place of business until he put up a sign on the egress window that read, "There is no longer a way to get through this window without having your head blown off by a shotgun."

This is mine. It was an old homestead built about a hundred years ago. We've had it since '41. It's a rustic dove tail log cabin. It has shifted somewhat over the years. The side with the barn boards is the woodshed attached. There is also a smaller dove tailed sauna just up the path. Of course there is no electricity or running water. We have an old cookstove and use oil lanterns. We do have a really nice well there though, hand dug and stone lined many, many years ago. To get to it we have to cross a lake and then hike through the woods about a mile and a half and cross a beaver dam.
