About two or three years ago, folks on the forums were ringing the death knell for aluminum arrows, and I told them B.S 8^). Today more people are realizing the aluminum is a darn good choice, as it has been since the 1930's. Tell me what you are using.
Mine are 2016, XX75 Legacy, or other XX75 shafts. Using my Bear Razorheads, at 145 grains, 5" feathers.....perfect arrow flight.

Had been shooting wood for along time. Just recently fletched decided to fletch up some Legacys. I still have some woodies around but its safe to say the aluminums will be with me the majority of the time, just can't beat the consistency.
2018 Legacy 5" feathers and 145 grain heads. Long live aluminum! Eric.

George, on my lower poundage bows I shoot the same xx75 Eastern Legacy 2016's, 5" shields and 145gr field tips or bear razors. But I'm going to try some woodys. Got some sitkas coming. Higher poundage I shoot xx75 Eastern Legacys or Eastern JDS's in 2219 with 5 1/2" shields, 175gr field tips or zwicky Deltas. Tried wood but couldn't get good flight with the heavier bows (71# and 65#). You can't beat xx75's. I have about six dozen of 'em. BTW I just don't like carbon. Makes me think of c c c c c com comp compounds. Whew, got it out! Frank

Shot 2216s for many years until I realized they were marginally too stiff, switched to 2117s, 30.5" long with 145 points, shoot great. Autumn Orange are my favorite (for the nostalgia), but any flavor of 2117 is fine with me. I use 145gr bear super razorheads.
I have a 30" draw, shooting recurves in the 50 to 55lb @28" range.

I shoot 32" (BOP), X7 Eclipse 2212s out of my 37# recurve and 41# longbow tipped. My 42# recurve shoots a 32" (BOP), Camo Hunter 2213. All arrows have a tip weight of 180 grains (STOS 145 grain 2 blade glue on glued to a 36 grain screw-in Zwickey long broadhead adapter).

XX75 in 2016, 2018, & 2117 sizes, depends on which bow is in the hand. One of my favorite set-ups is a 55# Shakespeare Necedah launching 28.5" 2016's with 4 fletch, 4" feathers, pushing a 125 grain head. -bb

George, I've always been a diehard aluminum fan and love the 2020's,but have started using the Axis full metal jacket's(Ha! still aluminum outside)and really believe they penetrate better and still offer the precise spine and straightness of aluminum. They are pricey though,so aluminum is still a hard to beat shaft/value that shoots awesome.

32" 2219 xx75 jdh super naturals, legacys, and camo hunters, 3 5" feathers and 160 Ace heads. I've shot em outa everything from 59lb recurves to 76lbs recurves by building my sideplate out a bit to tune the bows to them. I like 2219's because at 640gn they're not too light n not too heavy for the weight I shoot, plus they're heck to try n destroy while stumpin. Before that I shot Bear 8.7 metric mags which was about the same thing in x7 alloy.

First, I'd shoot carbon if I could. Just can't get them or woodies for that matter in my draw length dang it.
But I shoot 34", XX75 Camo Hunters in 2216 and 2419. Both shoot great. The 2216 shafts shoot flatter than my 65# compound from my old 70# bear, but the 2419s are a LOT tougher and still shoot great. So they are my primary shaft.

i will concede good carbons are tougher but, for the most part it is alloy's for me too. the ease of tuning, more forgiving or a poor release, and consistency can't be beat.
a 2016 or 1916 is about all i need for any of my low 50's draw weight bows. XX75 Platinum or even the Camo's are fine. I like the black GG's also.

For my Target Bows...all 31# to 37", I use 1713, 1714 and 1716 with inline 55 or 80 grain points. Also use 1813 and 1814 with inserts and 85 grain field or target points. For bashing and crashing 3D or stumping, I'll use 1816 with inserts and 85 grain points. All my arrow lengths are 28" to 29".
I like 24-SRT-X when I can find them, but also use Jazz and Platinums. Don't like Camo colors, 'cause they are tough for my eyes to see outside in the woods. Solid colors, and second hand arrows, are my mainstays. Aluminum recycles! Especially 2nd hand arrows, the best type of recycling!!

When I don't shoot wood, I use either 2016s or 1916s for my 50 lb bow. I must confess that I have noticed more consistant results with broadheads shooting aluminum than with wood. If a 2016 cut 27.5 inches long flys great with a 125 grain Zwickey on a long bh adapter, then ANY 2016 cut 27.5 inches long with the same bh will fly great. With my wood arrows, I shoot each and every one that I put a bh on. Sometimes you get a wooden arrow that just will not hit the same point-of-aim as the others no matter what you do.

Legacy 1916s out of my 48# longbow w/5" shield feathers. Havent found anything better. I would like to try some of those cool looking 2013 platinums too. They will most likely mimic the 1916 w/ just a tad more speed due to the slight weight reduction. Mainly, I want to put some neat barred feathers on those silver devils for the aesthetic appeal.

I shoot a 55# recurve and use 2016 xx75 with a 125gn head. I draw 28" and the shaft is 32". The fletch is 5.5" and either banana or high shield cut.
Recently I bought a 50# longbow and can't seem to get the 2016's to fly right from it. I've purchase 1916's and expect that when Spring arrives I will be toying with tuning up with them.
As a gap shooter, I like a solid colored shaft for competition and prefer the platinium.

I'm primarily shooting 1916(s) in my bows 45-53lbs. I just vary the length 29 - 29.5" and 100 to 145 grains up front with 5" feathers to get the best flight from each bow.
I've shot carbon, cedar, fir and I've always come back to aluminum. IMHO you can't beat it for price, consistancy and availibility. I still shoot surewood fir shafts on occassion for kicks - very good wood shafts.

Aluminums are easier for me to tune to my bows and have become my favorite projectiles. Of course, wood and carbon have their good points too, but it's easier to match aluminum.
With my bows in the 45-55# range, I love 1916, 1918, 2016, and 2114 and all in Autumn Orange. I guarantee I can obtain perfect flight quickly and easily with one of those shafts...mostly with 125 gr. heads.

Glad to hear 1913 mentioned as a target arrow- they come with longer shafts. 2114 is another not commonly mentioned but a good tough shaft that tunes well for middle weight bows and is lighter than 2117.
For large game 2020 is a very tough slim shaft that penetrates well. From a middle weight bow in needs a lot of weight up front but tunes well with steel or brass inserts for a glue-on broadhead and a big sturdy head.
If I should win the lottery that is what I would take to Alaska, Africa, Asia and Australia. - lbg

I do have 32" 2216's with 160 ace heads also. I find they work well outa my 60lb longbow that is less centershot than my recurves. I own a bunch of different sizes but the two I mentioned are it for the weight I shoot now. That being said I shoot mostly spruce at this time in my longbow.
Fiberglass arrows made aluminum "a thing of the past", as did farbenglass, early carbons, graphite, and now carbons again for the last 20some years. Poor aluminums died a buncha deaths, lol. As did wood.

I attached a photo of the "sole survivor" of my very first set of aluminum hunting arrows. It's an old GameGetter 1918. Unfortunately, the 1918 size is no longer available. It spines about like a 2016.

I found another aluminum in my collection. It's one of Byron Ferguson's XX75 Platimum arrows in size 2315 that he signed for me. He was shooting them at the time & said he wished Easton would make them available in Legacy. I guess they finally listened to him.

It would be nice to see some of these discontinued aluminum sizes back on the market again someday. These 1920s I have are a great arrow. They spine like a 2018 but are smaller in circumferance and have thicker walls ofcourse. It truelly is a great hunting arrow!Ihat 1918 sounds real good Uncle Lijiah.

George, thanks for the lead. I'm tempted, but the originl Gamegetter material was kind of soft compared to the XX75 alloy. Not a problem if you always hit the target backstop, but the way I shoot, I'm afraid they wouldn't last me very long. :o) Clint

Maybe a miracle will happen & Eastom will reintroduce the 1918, 1920 and maybe even the 1820 as XX75 Legacy shafts. Fat chance. Carbon rules the roost now.

Yep all three of those sizes would be fantastic hunting arrows in sizes that alot of traditianal bowhunters could use.I think thier would be reasonable demand for those shafts?
Anyone know what the thickest walled aluminum arrow ever made was?I cant remember ever seeing higher than 20.I think a 1822 or something like that would be interesting.

Currently in the process of returning to Legacy 2016's.
Did a head to head test between them and the CE 150's I've been shooting for the last few years just last weekend.
After seeing the result I had to ask myself, what the H have you been doing ?,the 2016 simply shoots better groups for me,an they always did me proud for all those years I shot them in the years BC.
They ain't dieing, their on the come back and I intend to buy heaps before Easton catches on an puts the prices up.

I have been hoarding xx75 aluminum shafts in my sizes for a few years now. Have at least a half dozen or more of 2016,2018,2020,2216,and 2219 sizes. All with nock tapers as I hate the uni nocks. My carbon shooting friends trash as many arrows as I do and I lose far more than I ever damage. Carbon toughness is overstated. I still shoot lam birch and maple shafts out of my hill style longbow as its just proper. I can also pretty much pick the right shaft and point weight for any new bow I get and be pretty much spot on without a lot of tinkering with insertweights and the rest of that hassle.

I like the standard nock swage too, freaknyellow. At first I thought the uni-nocks were great until I shot them at stumps for awhile....they popped too easily to suit me, and I don't need "tune-able" nocks. I also like the older snap on types that glue on.
Aluminum sizes have been the same for decades so there is no need to fiddle with them; you know what will work and you can set the bow up rather easily. Simple.

Just took a new-to-me old bow up to the range, with an assortment of aluminums and a few carbons. (It didn't like those at all.)
First shot, one of my old hunting 2018's, flew in a corkscrew manner but hit dead center. Second and third were close but didn't fly -quite- so bad. Gonna have to fiddle with nock fit, rest, etc but it shows promise.
2016, 2114, 2115 were not a match, nor were 500 carbons at full length. Further study is required...

I use 1816, 1820 (one of my faves)1913, 1916 (a lot), 1918 ( wish they still made them), 2016, 2018, 2113, 2114 ( one of the best), 2115, 2117 and 2216.
I try a variety in the same spine group and let the bow pick what it like! Some of the 2010 posters did that.

Even have a few 2213s left but can only shoot them on the 43# limbs and they are a but weak. I found that the % of speed loss is no where near the % of momentum gained. Still getting 185 fps at over 10 gpp so looking good as a hunting arrow
