Charcoal riser/ zebra limbs 2007

From: silvertip
Date: 11-Feb-10

silvertip's embedded Photo

A Original Paul made Schafer 64" w/ two sets of limbs. Walnut dymondwood riser, checkered grip. 54@28 Zebrawood set has antler tips. Camo (early Realtree) set is 57@28. This bow I got from the original owner, he recieved it in Dec 92', the month before Paul was killed. Has to surely be one of the last few ones he did...

From: silvertip
Date: 11-Feb-10

silvertip's embedded Photo

58" 53@28 Schafer ff Charcoal dymondwood riser, checkered grip. Cottonmouth skins done by Morrison. Stippled antler bolts..

From: silvertip
Date: 11-Feb-10

silvertip's embedded Photo

56" 54@28 Schafer ff. Walnut dymondwood riser, checkered grip and camo limbs. Am told that there is only about three of these 56" Dave has made. Riser is 13", shoots as smooth as a 60"er.

From: silvertip
Date: 11-Feb-10

60" 57@28 Schafer ff. Cocobolo riser, Zebrawood veneers, checkered grip and antler bolts. Sold this one awhile back to a buddy of mine...

From: silvertip
Date: 11-Feb-10

silvertip's embedded Photo

Another 60" 55@28 Tip I sold recently. Rosewood riser, Russian Olive veneers, sheephorn tips. Decided as smooth as the 58" and below are, no need for the extra length...

Being extremely opinionated as I am- I'm gonna state my narrow mind here. Can't get my aesthetic ar$^#* around a takedown tip- they just don't work at all for me. Kind of like a takedown Dale Dye. Now a one piece tip [or Dye for that matter]- well, that's a completely different matter. They be one of the sweetest simple designs in the realm of archery.

From: Kevin Dill Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 11-Feb-10

Longpoint:

My absolute compliments on 3 beautiful bows! The one piece bow is almost always aesthetically superior to the TDs. Nothing like uninterrupted flowing lines of beautiful woods.

That said, I'm trying to figure out wood combos for a 1 pc 'Tip coming sometime this summer. I'm working on a theme of "simply gorgeous" for this one.

I am building a copy of an original, does that count! Locust riser gray glass and diamonback skins. I made the limbs much narrower than the originals though. 56#@30. It is still rough. I will post more when it is done.

From: silvertip
Date: 11-Feb-10

Opinions being what they are, I agree the one pieces are beautiful, no breaks in the beauty lines I call them. But in the fact if you travel to hunt, or if you want different draw weights in the same bow... the 3pc's are the ticket. They both have pros and cons. I for one would like to own a one pc Schafer one day, but the takedowns are my pick for a hunting bow. Looks ain't never killed anything, unless you have seen my ex wife..LOL.

Tip

Blue Monday, May I see a side view of the riser?

From: DEATHMASTER
Date: 11-Feb-10

I would post mine but it looks JUST like Kevins with the bacote and babinga flared. The first one of Kevin Dills is a eye catcher for sure. Some VERY nice looking bows posted.

The pictures are terrible and the riser comes out looking like pine. I haven't got finish on it yet But I am going from a one piece of Paul's and so far the risers and grip are almost identical. This is the first one off the form so I used a piece of locust I had laying around the shop. The next one will be fancier.

That IS your bow, my friend. I sold it to Don Rowan a couple years ago. I took the pics of it as shown. BTW...this bow is called the Brochure Bow. I bought it new off the table at Denton Hill and it was featured in/on the Schafer Bows brochure.

Do you like it? Hunt with it?

Kevin,how long your bows are?

From: Kevin Dill Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 13-Feb-10

Hi,

The first bow I showed is a 60 inch. The last one is 62 inches. The riser is longer on the 62 than on the 60. I can tell a difference in the way they shoot. I hunted with the 62 this year and killed a nice buck with it. A year ago I took it to Alaska on a moose hunt. I didn't kill a moose, but I was head-shooting snowshoe hares to supplement our diet. These bows are...to put it simply...REAL hunting bows.

I think I will still own a Silvertip or Robertson soon to add to my small collection...Unless I get a Bill Stewart first.

From: Kevin Dill Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member
Date: 11-Feb-11

Felix, I can't really compare them on performance or shooting qualities yet. It's been a brutal winter here and I've not had an opportunity to really shoot much. For traveling, nothing beats the td. I only bought this bow because I intend to use it right here where I live and hunt. It's my "local bow" now. One noticeable (and surprising) thing: this bow is a bantam weight recurve. Maybe it's the shedua, but it only weighs ounces more than my 64" 2 piece longbows.

From: Zman Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Riser so far is Meccassar with a Black and White Ebony flare, not sure of the limbs yet, but, whatever is decided upon will be Awesome!! (62", 62# @ 30 draw, TD, FF) All of these GREAT Silver Tips on here have convinced me that there is no way to go wrong dealing with a company and people of this caliber... Now I just have to wait for ten months to pass.

Can't wait, Zeus

I just realized I've read this thread several times looking at all the beautiful tips and debating wood choices for a one piece I have on order...and never posted a pic of my own.

62" cocobolo riser with ebony stripe (non-FF), limbs are either zebra or stained elm...pretty either way. Antler tips and overlay, and the nice checkered grip. A classifieds treasure.

moosehunter,

lots of choices for veneers and really boils down to the look YOU want, some like contrast, some like snakeskin's and so on...........I personally like my bows sorta plain and think black glass limbs look nice with a charcoal riser. Having said that.......my all-time favorite combo was this bow, charcoal riser with quilted maple veneers stained charcoal.........it gave the limbs a natural camo look.

Good luck!

Keith, Was good to meet you at Marsh Hill, bigger pleasure when you let me fondle one of your outstanding bows. You have a great eye for bows and you can shoot them very well too.... Monkey balls baking wasn't hard to take either. My tip should be here by August so I will be working hard to get back to my anchor, a Tip needs someone who can shoot better...

Just received my Silvertip from Dave. It's a mate to my current 1pc but is 5# lighter draw at 50@28". Done in a more traditional appearance, black glass, bubinga riser, accented with moose antler tips. Pictures don't do it justice. It's very nice looking and shoots identically to my old one, same arrows, brace height, and nock setting.

These things are all gorgeous. I wish I had one, they are functional works of art. And I like the antler burr riser bolt caps, but don't they catch on every weed, twig, and vine out there? These may be better for stand hunting rather than stalking all day. I'd probably skip that feature for that reason ONLY. Nevertheless, someday I'll own one I hope.

Another beauty! This thread gives a view of the improvements in woods and design over the last few years.

From: mtquiver55

Cacciatore, One great thing about the Silvertips is that Dave and Beth have been doing this since before Paul's passing and put their heart and soul into every single bow they produce. Works of art and high performance is found in every bow. You can get a range of options that is virtually unlimited and every bow shoots as well as the next. The quality is second to none. I have one ordered as well and am obviously anxious to put it to the test once it arrives. If you are seriously considering having them make a bow for you, you will not regret making that decision. Yes, there is a long turn around time at the moment, perhaps as much as 12 months, but from all those I have talked to who I know own Silvertips, not one had anything even minor to say against these bows and all had nothing but praise for how they look and shoot. You can see Zman has quite the collection of Silvertips and probably the best looking one I've ever seen. The one I have on order is not as elaborate as some of his, and I won't put words in his mouth, but I would be willing to bet he would say they all shoot equally as well regardless of the wood composition and options. Amazing quality.

Zman & Cacciatore; Sorry for misinterpreting the thread. Did not mean to go off on a tangent there and certainly did not mean to insult anyone's intelligence. Thanks for setting me straight. ((I will chalk it up to mental fatigue from not being able to stump shoot this winter)). Thanks again. MTQUIVER

Mine went to a town 35 miles east of me yesterday and to a town 25 miles south of me today. Hopefully it will be at my post office tomorrow where I have them holding it and not sending it out with the carrier. Has been a long wait, I am ready to get it.

This is MBogo. A gift from Comanche. I sent it back to Dave to have it refinished. Dave added Eland limb overlays and an Eland riser overlay.

Its 60 58@28. Limbs and riser are Macasser. Limb tips are Cape Buffalo. The bow is a Special Edition 1/15. The Bloodwood in the riser and overlays goes well together with the Macasser.

Thank you again Danny. U are a wonderful friend. Love u bro!
