I have a 62" Huntsman 44#@28" its is the best shooting bow and shoots great out to 25 yards I can group the arrows real nice, 5 untuned arrows in a 3" group they are 30" Black Max by Beman with 200 gr field points so the arrows come out to around 470 to 500 grains. Has anyone else had experience with this bow?

Nirk didn't make any bows. American Archery made bows for them, and so did Randy Dehnel in later years. If you have a photo, I can probably tell you what it is and who really made it.

Had one about 20 years ago. 65#'s pulled like a train and kicked like a mule so I gave it to someone I really didn't care for. Red elm under clear glass, 50's style recurve.

So let me assume it has clear glass, and probably red elm lams? It's the same basic bow as the Saxon American Recurve by Randy Dehnel. That is a sweet 50's style shooter.

killinstuff, I had a 50 pounder that was as pleasant as any bow I ever shot. Wish I had kept it.

Not mine. It could put the hurting on an elbow. 65#'s over 62" had nothing to do with it either 8^}

I recently acquired a Nirk Huntsman 'curve and I sent Randy Dehnel an e-mail asking if he made it and he said yes. Gorgeous looking bow. Here's a pic, and yes, it does look exactly like some of the later 'curves made under the Saxon banner

I recently looked at a Nirk recurve up close. The inked spec's looked like the specs I've seen on Howatt and Martin bows.

Nirk never made bows...period. Larry Nirk had bows made for his company by Martin, American, Saxon, etc. We lost Larry Nirk to cancer a few years back. He was one of those unsung icons in the sport.

Wow I did not know that I was under my initial impression. I have the 52" Rebel recurve by Martin and it says Nirk on it but I got it 5 or 6 years ago would Larry been responsible for that?

Martin built that for Larry Nirk's company...Nirk Archery. Martin still markets the Rebel, as a matter of fact. Back years ago, there were many distributors who had bows with their names on, but they didn't make them. Examples are, Anderson Archery, Robin Hood Archery, Feline Archery, Kittredge, etc. It was very common and most of those bows were supplied by Damon Howatt, Bear or Ben Pearson. American Archery made bows for Nirk and Feline at one time. Wing made bows for Colt Firearms (Colt never made their own bows). Ben Pearson made the later Colt models.
Nirk manufactured nocks and accessories for archery.
