if you could buy a new bow what would you buy? and why?

From: DelSnavely
Date: 31-Dec-08

I just bought a new custom J.D. Berry Viper. I did a lot of research before hand because I couldn't shoot a bunch of different bows, and after talking to James I feel very comfortable and I'm sure it will be the best bow for my money. He told me I could name the bow if I wanted so I named it the "Buck Swatter" because my favorite fly swatter is a rubber band...lol I can't wait till it gets here!!!!!

Longbow, not sure who's though. I like th RER three piece, maybe a Dwyer, had one once too long but like his shorter bows, maybe and ACS just 'cause, An Acadiana tree stick, a snowshoe bow, cari-bow, lots to choose from!!

I would order a composite bow from Lukas Novotny. The "C" shaped, all natural materials bow that has to be trained after it's built. I've always been intrigued by one of those beauties, but I'll probably never will have $3,000 for one.

IMHO, any recurve as long as it was made by Black Widow. I know some people say "Plywood" when you mention Widow but I wouldn't care if they made them out of navel lint from the rare Ethiopian white Goink as long as it felt, shot and handled like my Widows and had that Widow name on it! There's just something about those killer spiders!! Happy New Year to all. May 2009 bring you safe tree stands, heavy antlers, great blood trails and friends by your fireside! Desperado

From the original topic of the thread, I presumed you meant ordering a new bow from the bowyer (or from the supplier if it is a "production" bow). If that is the case, I would like to get a bow that was ILF compatible to do some playing around. The Trad Tech catalog is in the 'reading room' and I have looked it over several times. With a FITA archery background, they are a bit intriguing.

However if "new" simply means new to me, I would really love to own an original John Grumley bow. Being a Michigan native and having roots with MBH, it would be very special to own a bow with such rich history. I've dabbled with recurve bow collecting for a few years, but don't own anything remotely rare or valuable. A Grumley would definitely be icing.

If I had the $$$ it would be a DAS.

I had my first opportunity to try out a 21" DAS Elite and 35# limbs today. It wasn't even set up for me, I threw on an old B50 string off of my Martin Vision and used some overspined arrows and shot off the shelf to try it out. I wasn't concerned about accuracy but wanted to really 'feel' it.

I am STUNNED!!! I have never felt a draw so smooth or complete deadness in the hand...it just sits there in the web of my hand after the shot, like it's a part of me.

Now the Martin Vision I have been shooting is one sweet bow. The T-Rex and DAS limbs is a pretty nice combo. But this thing is absolutely, 100% AMMAAAAZZZINNNGGGGGG.

IMHO, if you ever want to feel what a bow should feel like, then get one of these in your hands as quickly as possible...if you can.

Now I can't wait to get a plunger and rest on it to see how it really shoots!

WAAAAAAHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I have had a lot of bows ( Wright, martin, arctec, border, phoebus, black widow, H.Hill, Blacktail, Rosini and much between mines hands as Merlin, Robertson, Fox, Grand Gallois,De vincenz,Great plains)that i'll said now that in excess to my Blacktail,i would like try much others bows

To Td: Brackenbury, Morrison shawnee or else Zipper and Timberhawk To one piece: Rer Arroyo, Schaffer, Wallace mentor, Arapaho Morrison To flat or longbow: Acs, Horne's

But for buy probably a Black widow ptf x

I guess I would have to just run across a bow on a swap table somewhere that fit well.Who knows what it might be?

Nothing in particular that really stands out for me right now.I guess if I had a wish list it would be a Turkey Creek with a custom longer riser for a glass bow.I would like to have a selfbow built by some of the great bowyers I see post pictures on the site as well.To be honest the all wood bows impress me much more than glass bows now days.:)

I would buy a B Riser Bear TD, not sure if I care if it was old or new but I like the woods in the older ones. I would want RER limbs built for it. My ideal bow would be 60" and 55#@28.

I normally am a BW guy and have one that I shoot all the time, it is my go to bow. However, I like the idea of the nostalgia in one of the Bear TD risers...
