I walked past a couple in the grocery store last night and the husband said to his wife, "Can we get some bread too?" To which she replied, "Sure."

Sorry, your post made me think of that poor guy.

Might have got them caught in a fence or something. Thats why he's in velvet still. Poor guy!

I thought you were going to show us a doe with antlers, another not so common common disorder as well.

Whoa, guys ..... Correct me if I'm wrong, but deer antler development comes from testosterone produced by los heuvos (testicles)......? ....correct...? Bucks testicles retract during the "off cycle" ...... when they are building antlers and waiting through the "off" months (Apr.- Aug.) to begin the agressive "I want some of that" period that begins around Sept. and peaks (around here) the wk. of Thanksgiving. Are you sure this Buck had NO sign of testicular production (maybe retracted)...? Weird. oso

I did not do an exam on mine since I don't dress deer but there was no visable sign at all.The velvet on mine was dry and not bloody like early season deer and I am not sure it was not just last years rack that never dropped. It was the first I have personally seen like this.

yeah, something weird goin' on anyway you slice it.

.......you don't dress your own harvests..? ......bad karma. oso

Did they walk out and beg to be shot.

If I remember correctly......Lenoard Lee Rue actually defined these bucks as, Stags. They grew antlers then had a testicular injury (ouch!) that prevents the cycle from being completed. They will keep those velvety antlers for the rest of their days.

OSO I usually butcher the deer on the spot it falls.I do so without feild dressing. If I am going to take one home to butcher I do dress them in the woods. It is a lot easier to pack out the meat than drag a whole deer. Unless I am somewhere a short distance from a truck what I don't eat stays put.We have been doing so for many years so I am not too worried about karma. ;)

We see one once in a while, we call them raghorns, I suspect barbwire fences could be a cause, I know all my jeans have patches in that area but so far I,ve been lucky.

James Wrenn, in Pennsylvania you must remove the entire deer intact so the deer must be field dressed in the woods.

Every wonder why folks get all ramped up over the term harvest, but say nothing about the term field dressed 8^).

Yeah different rules in different places George. Some places I hunt I also have to bring the deer out whole but not around here. Here we can not put carcases in landfills. If a person does not own land or have a place to bury it all of it gets carried back to the woods or as can be seen in many places dumped along roads.Leaving it in the woods feeds other things and is a better option for me.

I talked to a wrden bout the no ball deal awhile back. The antlers in velvet would continue to grow all year long. Withoiut testicles there dont have any testosterone which directly affect all aspect of antler growth. Same thing if the "neutering" occurs after the antler growwth has stopped and hardend they would sport those antlers till death.
