Has anyone tried these limbs? I seen that 3 Rivers carries them.

From: Boker
Date: 02-Dec-23

No but I thought Bear done tried this in the early 80’s and came to the conclusion the riser geometry wasn’t right for a longbow? What’s changed?

From: Nemophilist
Date: 02-Dec-23

They were advertised in the 1984 Bear Archery catalog.

From: M60gunner
Date: 02-Dec-23

I don’t recall them being all the popular or great back then. I knew one or two guys that bought them. I wasn’t impressed by their performance.

They Redesigned the limb it’s not even close to the old ones they shoot a lot better

From: BEARMAN Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I have shot the older ones on a B riser. I didn’t like them at all. Not sure what had changed with designing if anything? The old ones were also known to break.

My buddy has a pair of the old ones and they are terrible, the only reason he keeps them is he thought in 20 years they might be collector items.

From: Dan In MI

Bear re-introduced them with a new design. I've heard good things but early purchasers often do have good responses.

From: Slayer
Date: 02-Dec-23

Ok. Yes I am talking about the new ones that are on 3 rivers archery website. I doubt they are just like the old ones. I doubt that would be a good move to reintroduce old ones that failed. Just wondered if anyone had purchased them yet. I looked on YouTube but have yet to find a review on them. Thanks for the info.

Yes, I got a set and after shooting them ordered another set 5# heavier. Do they shoot like recurve limbs, no they do not but then I never expected them to do that. I bought them for the same reasons I prefer longbow limbs over recurve, stable and quieter.

I'm looking forward to trying them out at Kalamzoo in a couple of months.

Saw a vid of Fred eichler drawing some and they look horrid. Appears only about a 1/3 if that entire limb was bending. Interested to hear some feedback but in my opinion they look ugly enough to deter me

From: 4nolz@work

It's not the failed 1983 design

From: bowhunt
Date: 03-Dec-23

It appears Kelly is the only one who has actually had a pair on this thread.Sounds like he liked them and he has been around the block a few times with the Bear T.Ds.

Anyway, more feedback will be available in the future when more guys get their hands on them.

If I go to Kalamazoo I will give them a try and report my opinion.

Where can u see the vid?

Forgot to add this is a newer A Mag riser making this a 58” bow. With a B riser they would be 62” and a couple pounds lighter.

man,,, that just doesn"t look right,,,,,,,,,,

From: 4nolz@work

Looks almost reverse handled

From: Kelly
Date: 03-Dec-23

Yup, the limbs do appear to be coming off the belly side of handle.

Any recurve type handle with longbow limbs will not look like a conventional one piece longbow with a skinny, short handle.

But if you are like me that prefer a heavy mass handle with longbow limbs you probably don’t care what the bow looks like. Yes this bow appears to me to look better with the wood handle but I will never shoot that way because I prefer the heavier mass of the A Mag.

From: Buglmin

I got sent a pair in September, but with my Border cv5-H limbs, I had no interest in shooting them much. Performace just wasn't there, and it didn't matter which Bear riser I used, my A mag risers, my wooden A risers, or the Eichler riser, performance wasn't there to justify them over the recurve limbs. I've let the guys coming into the shop shoot them, spend time with them, but most guys just perfer the peformance and feel of the recurve limbs. I really don't think they changed the angle on the longbow limbs for the recurve riser. I can't see a difference.

From: Kelly

If you are looking for performance then no need to venture to any longbow limbs, but if you are like me who prefers quiet, smoothness, and stability for hunting they are plenty good enough.

Compared to the old Grayling Bear longbow limbs these are a vast improvement. Of corse since the angle of attachment can not change doesn’t mean they didn’t make changes to the rest of the working limb.

Just got in a few minutes for shooting these limbs some more. I did add a quarter inch to my brace to see how it shot at 7.5” but will back it down cause didn’t see any difference. Am even going to try lower like 7”, too. I am using a Stilldub 12 strand fastflite plus string and tonight 1716 w/175 gr points and 1813’s w/200 gr up front, weighing 465 and 445 respectively. They both shot very well with plenty of zip at 15 yards. Don’t shoot much over that when hunting anyway.

Just so you know these are marked 30# on an A riser, I don’t have a scale to know but they seem very similar to my other 30# bows. And when I do everything correctly am drawing 27.5” plus, not yet quite 28” but eventually hoped to be there as I get stronger. With a super sharp two blade broadhead or a Wensel Woodsman I wouldn’t be afraid to hunt with them. With really small natural wool for silencers it is really quiet. Am going to have Pierre at SDB make me a 6 strand Physco string for it when I get the brace settled in on this one to measure length.

Looks like they made the fadeouts so their not as deflexed as the recurve limbs are. They look straighter.Thats what it looks like Kelly?

Anyway that would be good with the longbow limbs.

Bob Morrisson did something similar with his 3 piece Cheyenne recurve when he decided to make longbow limbs for it.

He customized the limb butts so they would not have deflex like the recurve limbs had on the Cheyenne riser

From: Kelly
Date: 04-Dec-23

Eric, yes the fade-outs are more deflexed via a backwards scoop sort of what the Wing P2 tds were and the very early Bighorns. Will try to get side by side pictures compared to the recurve ones.

I bought a pair of used "Bear" after-market longbows off this very website back in September. Had a buddy work on them so they would be a better, "easier" fit into my B-Mag riser. I believe they are 64 inches and, let me say, they shoot lights out. Very fast, flat, quiet. They are fastflight rated and I use a D-97 string. Impressive...

Ttt… anyone else having good experiences with the longbow limbs?

I like the idea of an A Mag riser and R/D Longbow limbs for a nice little 58” bow. I think it looks cool too.

From: Lastmohecken

I like the looks of them myself. I have been tempted to try a set.

I like the longbow limb look on the wood A Riser. I imagine that a 55-60# bow would kick them out.
